Been out of the loop for over a year, need some serious questions answered (XPS 1210)

1. Can Notebook Hardware Control control the voltages on Core 2 Duo like it did for the older centrino chips. (yes I'm this out of the loop...)

2. And if it can how does that interact with each core? I remember reading about yonah and how the speedstep can disable one of the cores... how does this interact with NHC?

3. Looking into getting a XPS 1210 system and I was just wondering if it was possible to disable the nvidia graphics and use the intel chipset whenever I needed 8 hours of battery life?

4. Has anybody torn open their 1210 laptops yet? How durable does it seem? like how many screws are holding it together, how thick is the frame, any structural weak spots? I was looking at the hinges in the various posted photo galleries and they seem'd pretty small are they ok or flimsy?

5. How efficient is the cooling design? I've read a couple reviews that said that the laptop seemed to run pretty hot, yet nobody on the forums has said anything to that particular effect... Could somebody post up their max, min load average temps for the 1210?

6. The WIFI detector, Does it detect ANY wireless network or just the ones you can actually log on to?

7. was a pinmod ever figured out for the Core (2) Duo chips? or does the multiplier still lock at 6x?

8. Any way to gaurentee I get a good screen? think they would do anything if when ordering I told them I would return any screen that wasn't to my standards? I've read that the webcam package gets the better screens, this true?

9. Does the extra large battery sticking out the back of the 1210 bug anybody?

Thanks in advance guys I've been out of the loop since I stopped modding my i9300...

All answers will get added rep.

I don't know the answers to some of your questions, but here are the ones I know of:

3. You cannot disable 7400 since that is the only video card in there. If you want hybrid, go look at the Sony SZ series as it has both video cards in there.

5. I describe the m1210 as WARM. Not hot. Hot is like MacBook. Even after an hour of Need for Speed Carbon, the bottom gets warm, but it never irritates anyone using it on their lap. Great cooling and quiet also!

6. It detects any possible available wireless network in your surroundings.

8. Higher chance of getting an AUO screen through the A/V package.

9. It does stick out, but not as much as compared with a 700m or even a 640m extended. It is not bothersome at all!

M1210 is an overall great laptop. However, the screen and the sound may be a bit lacking if you are picky on that. Keyboard is a little on the weak side as it does contain some flex, but it's no big deal. Other than that, it's perfect!

Thanks for those answers... repped...
OK so questions remaining are...

4. Has anybody torn open their 1210 laptops yet? How durable does it seem? like how many screws are holding it together, how thick is the frame, any structural weak spots? I was looking at the hinges in the various posted photo galleries and they seem'd pretty small are they ok or flimsy?

7. was a pinmod ever figured out for the Core (2) Duo chips? or does the multiplier still lock at 6x?

AND A NEW ADDED QUESTION

10. Has anybody gotten the 5.1 to work? I've had a dell tech tell me that it dosen't have 5.1 but I think he was smoking something.

of course if anybody wants to add anything to previously answered questions, go ahead, I'm in a generous rep handing out mood...

1. NHC with the Core 2 Duo patch can undervolt the CPU to 0.95V, other softwares like rmclock apparently can undervolt to 1.00V+

2. You can disable multithreading in Bios(if I am not wrong), but NHC doesnt have this feature of disabling one core

7. Lowest multiplier is 6x @ 1.00Ghz, but some manufactour manage to lower it to 0.8Ghz, but I dont know how.

10. Sigmatel Audio in control panel has the option of turning your 3 audio ports(2 headphone, 1 line in) into line outs for Center, Rear and Front Speakers, a 5.1 setup.

Heat is never a problem, this laptop runs amazingly cool even for hours. Good thing is there is also a fan utility for Dell laptops use to control fan speed

ADDED QUESTIONS

11. Anybody have anything just break or die on their laptop or should I say are there any things that seem common to break on this lappie?

12. has anybody tested out how well the microphone works? I want to use it and the camera to record lectures...

13. Does anybody know of any similarly equipped laptops for a similar price?
