I9300 - Sony 8x DL Burner, wont handle BeAll 16X Discs?

Anyway to upgrade the firmware or something on this Drive? My 3yr old $32 NEC OEM desktop Burner has no problem with this media. I love BeAll cause I have a CD Printer and these discs print to the Hub, and I get large packs of them for all my movies and stuff. In the past I've not often used the Burner on the Laptop, but I recently figured out how to get movies/shows off my Motorola 6416 HD-PVR, then turn them into DVD files with several free tools. So I plan on using this burner a lot more.

Any ideas how I can upgrade its disc reading ability?

(ps - it handled old cheapo Fuji8x discs at 8x no problem....but they are not injet printable. And I'm all out of them, lol!)

Are you having problems burning or reading the media? What's the model # and current firmware on your drive?

I see nothing there that tells me flashing back to an older Firmware will allow it to read newer media.

OK, I'm getting closer:

Sony DW-R56A, Sony DW-D56A
- slimtype laptop drive
- rebadged LiteOn slim-2S drives
- for more information, consult the LiteOn and LiteOn-Sony alliance DVD-writer overview ( http://codeguys.rpc1.org/dvdrw_overview.html )
- you can use LiteOn tools/firmwares/etc. for this drive

That's the newest legal firmware. If you do a Google search for DW-D56A and firmware, there's lots of info on it.
