Will this atheros card work with my dell m90?

ebay # 200036706987

I currently have an Intel 3945ABG

I read about some driver problems.

I want the atheros card with the most range

Yes, that is the card you would want to get. Unless you need A/B/G capability, this little baby is the real deal. It utilizes the Atheros AR5006EGS chipset, which is B/G/SuperG/XR (Xtended Range) capable. If you would need 802.11A/B/G functionality you would be looking for one with the Atheros AR5006EXS chipset.

Check this out, this one is in the USA (Washington State I believe) This is the guy I bought mine from, and (even though the shipping was a little slow) it arrived in perfect condition and ready to rock. Good luck!

Is that an atheros? I'm new to this and want to get the right one. Is atheros like nvidia in the video card world where other companies use the main nvidia card and brand it under their own name?

Also am I correct on this one. that the atheros EGS will give me more range but won't give me wirless A, while the EXS will give me "A" but will have less range and have driver issues?

Thanks in advance.

No, the EXS will not give you less range. They both operate at 100mW, and have the same basic range. The driver issue is moot, as there is a new driver now that works just fine with it (search for Atheros, it's one of the newer threads...) Yes, its a Gigabyte card with an Atheros chipset. Atheros is simply a chip maker, they depend on the big manufacturers to utilize the chipset in their own designs. If you don't need 802.11a, then don't bother. I have never used A in all my time using wi-fi. Either way you go, its a damn good setup. I have found access points that I have never been able to see with my 3945.

Here is a link where you can pick one up for 26 bux, however I cannot vouch for the seller. If I would have found this before I bought mine on Ebay, I would have given these guys a shot for sure. Good luck!

Gimme a few to get home and I will make you an ISO of the original CD

Try these drivers instead, they are much newer...

****EDIT****

Here is the ISO of the original driver disk, just in case you just want to have it handy.

Thanks Krazyiepop. I just downloaded the drivers.. The card is 100x times better than the intel card....literally..no exaggeration. It works greats with my dlink dgl4300... but the only i have is it's compatibility with the buffalo whr-54gs. It will work fine with my intel card but won't connnect with my atheros... Anyone know what the issue might be?

Just got my Gigabyte PCI-E card from eWiz.com. codek did you not get a install cd with your card? My came the install cd. If you need a copy I can send a copy to you. I tried the Atheros5_0_0_107 install with the client install and I couldn't get my M90 to get past the log in screen it just sat there doing nothing. So I installed the Included cd and updated the drivers to the Atheros5_0_0_107 drivers. Man I didn't know that there were so many people with open wireless meaning non secure. So I'm loving the Card and Drive.

So you're saying install the old driver from cd first and then update driver.

I"ll try that but I don't think I have the same issue that you are having. I can connect to some routers, just not one with a buffalo router..

but I'll give it a shot.
