Hello-

I have a Compaq nc6400 that has the integrated ambient light sensor. Unfortunately I have been unable to turn the light sensor off, thus I can't adjust the brightness manually. The worst part for me is that in my office the light is behind me, so when I type the shadows from my fingers cause the brightness to go up and down, it is extremely annoying.

Here is what I have done so far:

Tried turning it off with the fn11 key (which is supposed to turn it off)
Used the HP Quick Launch buttons to turn off the ambient light sensor (it gives a message stating that it is off or on depending on the toggle)
Downloaded and installed the latest BIOS from HP
Disabled the ambient light sensor in the BIOS setup
Downloaded and installed every driver I could find on the HP website

Obviously none of this turned off the sensor

This is a pretty clean version of XP Pro, so I don't think there is anything that is interfering with the function keys, but I suppose it is possible that Norton or SpySweeper could be blocking it, but it seems unlikely.

Any help would be very appreciated.
