Just an fyi, I will be selling my laptop around thanksgiving. I know it's early notice, but if there is anyone interested to purchase the ultimate perfected Dell laptop with warrantee still intact, pm me. Ebay will go up a week before thanksgiving, and forum members will get first dibs. I will also repaint the lid either same color or a mirror black, and install brighter led's.

I'm actually going to get an IBM thinkpad t43. I haven't gamed since the spring and I need a more professional laptop for lawschool. A sager is not out of the picture, but I'm very heavily weighed towards a thinkpad because I will not be gaming.

Hey, Spiike:
Did you ever swap out the surface LEDs on the strip with the power button on it (i.e. WiFi, Bluetooth, scr, #, and Caps locks)? What all would that entail?
I'd just start taking it apart and doing this, but I need the lappy for class every day, so weekends are my only work time.

Please someone-- Newbie here.. I have a 600m, I want to make it look more professional-- by simple modificatons, such as a badge change-- where could I find premade badges or custom ones, what arm, rest can I switch too, bezel, any parts that could be swapped easily to make it remove its cheap outside apperance.

Thanks,
Adam

You can swap everything into a D600 chassis if you like the look of it. Personally I'd just debadge the system and call it a day. My 600m looks so much cleaner without them.

Isnt america great???!!!!! Only in America will a consumer take a product from a weed whacker to a laptop or a motorcycle, car, you name it and we will chop it, customize it, add our own flair to it and improve its design and/or performance.
I LOVE IT!!

For those that CARE... (since my thread was trashed on the 2nd post :P)
I modded an Intellimouse explorer BT version, to include a switch so that you can turn it off, its very easy and works great.

laptop skins

Is there any online retailer that sells skins for laptops, i mean small skin kind of things that are easy to remove (no paint!). I dont want something that covers the entire back of the LCD, just like a skull or soemthing would be cool.

Anyone did the inverse D800 chassid mod?

I mean, anybody puts a Inspiron 8500 chassis on a D800/M60 mainboard? I've got an I8500, then I got the D800 chassis and did the mod, then I got a M60 mainboard + 2.1 centrino and swap it. Now I've tried going back to the I8500 chassis to recover the media (play/pause,stop,prev,next) keys but they does not work. I suppose it has something to do with the BIOS, any clue?

Regards,

D600's lid is aluminium, only D800/M60's is magnesium. You can tell because magnesium always loses it's shininess over time and looks dirty. Magnesium is quite fragile contrary to what many people thinks, but manufacturers use it because the parts are weight the same, but they are thicker wich helps with structural resistence.

Too bad that the 8600 I have right here is for sell... I can tell you tough that the 8600 doesn't work when connected to a D/Dock.

Dell 700m

How hard is it to upgrade the graphics card on the dell 700m and if I can't will the media accelerator 900 run BF2 on lowest settings with 1gb ram?
you cant, and you dont have a 915. you have the 855 one which is even worse. 700m=no gaming

I've heard that my links are really slow. So by monday they should be working nice and fast. I'll figure out how to upload to my university server.

Just thought I'd make a troll post and gloat. I'd been trying to figgure out what model/configuration everything was on my USMA-issued Precision M70. I finally found out.
I have a custom board, with a custom graphics card. How cool is that? I have PCI-E, which I don't believe is on the market in the M70, and an nVidia card with 256 MB of VRAM. I have yet to figgure out exactly what hardware I have, but it is very nice; I've been running every game I can find at full and have yet to see any lag or bad frames.
There is a legitimate reason for this post, though. I'm curious as to whether or not anybody else has seen this kind of stuff on fairly custom/special order laptops. I figgured I'd put this in the modding thread as it's about as "mod" as you can get.
P.S. I'm also replacing all my indicator lights in either red or blue, not sure which. I'm leaning toward red.
