Modding your Dell laptop - Page 53

I've got quite a bit more than 3.5g.... actually a ton more
post #1042 of 1095
Hi,

I have seen the new Precision M70 from my work mate, and I want to "transform" my 8600c into a Precision M60. For doing it, I think I need to buy the motherboard, the chassis, and what do you think I should buy?

Can I used my ATI 9600 PRO into the new motherboard?

Thanks
just buy a used M60 and sell your 8600, it will be way more cost effective

Ok thanks. Looks like I'll need to get 7.0g since I plan to do it on two i8600.

Also, the guide says put AS5 directly on the VRAM and core, and then place the cooper plate on top. Do you then add more AS5 before putting the metal casing back top of the cooper? So you have Chips, AS5, Copper, AS5, Casing ?

Thx

You will want AS5 between the copper and any surface it will touch, make sure you cover the serfaces with it, but don't over-do it

can you do the LED mod to the new E1505 dell?
Well I started the mod on my 8600c and borked it somehow. Got it all disasembled and some of the wireing in, when I tried to power it on (assembled of course) it wouldnt boot. Power light comes on, then turns off again.
so you um, plan to have that covered by warrenty??
how do you plan to explain that you were installing LEDS and fried your board?
Fried? Wires? Whatever are you talking about? it just stoped working one morning.

And again some "cool" guy doing some "cool" insurance fraud.

Thanks for making insureances more expensive for honest users.

@Chaosratt:
If you feel personally offended by my answer I am glad, maybe it gets you to think about right and wrong or at least annoys you as much as your attitude annoys me.

1) I never touched any internal components, nor did I make any modifications.
2) It is withen Dell's warrenty that I can disasemble the unit, so long as I to not modify, or visibly damage components.

I dont see any fraud. Just an accident thats going to make use of my $400 warrenty. Because, are not 'accidents' the reason we pay for a warrenty?

Also, this is not related to insurance in any way for me. Maybe Dell has an Insurance company that covers the cost of repairs ( I know Best Buy did when I worked there). But I never signed an insureance contract, just paid a little extra money and dell extended the expiration date of my warrenty by a few years.

As for the the increasing cost of "Insurance", I assume you reffer to the warrenty. I see no problem with it. Its not like car or medical insurance where its required by law in most states. If you dont want to pay for it, then dont.

Well you did say you installed some of the wires, and removed some kind of cover off the USB port. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but that sounds like some modifications to me.

So if you can't see the damage its ok? And as above, it sounds like you already mades some mods to me.

If you have completecare, "accidents" don't cover modding your laptop with extra wires and LEDs. Accidents cover drops, spills and crushing, and with CompleteCare Guard theft is covered too.

Doesn't mean that you can send it for repairs under the pretense of "it just stopped working ".

But for those of us that do want it we don't want to have to pay more because people send in their computers for repairs that they should not be entitled to.

Somehow you remind me of politicians.
Your argumentation is as faulty as most arguments done by them.

If you call it warranty or insurance does not make any difference (except for the name, if you want to name it warranty fraud, no problem, name it that way), but still it leaves the problem that costs produced by frauders like you need to be calculated into the prices (for insureances and or warranties) and everybody else has to pay your bill too.

People with your sense for right and wrong which come from america somehow explain why a man not voted the first time gets to be elected president at the next vote even after declaring war against the ruling of the UN.

Quite irrelevant to the discussion, but I'll bite.

In 2000, the Supreme Court certified the electoral victory.
In 2004, the election victory was, once again, decided by American voters, and not by the UN.
The "ruling" of the UN, was, in fact, a resolution, which the "Allies" enforced.

Kinda like the current UN deadline given to Iran.

Lastly, keeping in line with my typically obnoxious American character, my question to you is - which part of the world do you hail from? The part whose a$$ we saved or the part whose a$$ we kicked?
