Light problem and ASUS M6000N

Thread Starter
Hi all

I have recently bought a M6000 notebook from ASUS
I have bought the 1.4 SXGA+ centrino

I am extremely disappointed about the screen
It seems to be a light problem ( the bottom of the screen shows a deeper
light compared to the up of the screen )

I know some registered users here in this forum ( Orblord, webweaver and others ) have mentionned this issue

I wonder if this issue appears in model 1.6 or WSXGA model

I am completely stuck, can someone help me

Webweaver , Orblord, have u solved your probleme ?

Thank you helping me

sorry I cannot help you with your problem

I am interested in M6N as well.
Can you post some review or benchmarks?

Also, where did u buy it?
I am in US, so I am not sure where to find one.

I've just taken on the WXGA version of the M6N, and there's no problem with the display on it. From what I've been reading here there are quite a few instances of the non-widescreen SXGA displays having this problem, it seems to be a problem with the display itself. You might see if you can get the display replaced? From what I read I think Asus have had enough feedback on the problem to hopefully be rectifying it... sorry to hear you got caught out.

I think the problem is rather wide spread on the SXGA+ models. I've yet to hear any complaints about the WXGA display, other than your standard dead pixel here and there issues, which are common to all lcd displays.

This past week was extemely busy for me and I've not touched base with Asus recently, but plan to follow up on the display gradient issues next week.

Asus M6N SXGA Problem

Hi All,

I was about to buy a Asus M6N when I came across the postings on SXGA brightness problem in this forum, I am confused on what to do. Either go for the WXGA model or take the risk of SXGA and then get it replaced by ASUS.

What do you guys recommend? Will Asus replace a brightness problem SXGA screen?

Thank you in advance,

Hi all, I've already RMA'd my M6N - sxga+ once. While I think it got a little better the problem still exists. I don't think they are going to do anything more about it, I'm starting to feel like its just characteristic of the screens they choose to use.
I looked at a few other screens for comparison, and they all seemed to exhibit the same issue to a certain extent ( allthough not as much as the M6N). However the screens I looked at were mostly XGA resolution. The only model whose high resolution screens were very clear and evenly lit, were a few toshiba's that I saw. Their screens are brilliant.

I have an M6N SXGA+ 15.1"
It has the brightness issue. I contacted these people:
http://www.man-machine.com/lcdbrightnessenhancement.htm

and they told me that they might be able to fix it.
from my inbox:

"The problem you mentioned sounds like it could be a defective backlight in the LCD. We would have to evaluate the unit to determine if this is the problem. We have a $35 evaluation fee which is waived if we repair the unit. If the problem is the backlight and we do have a compatible replacement in stock, the repair price is $99. If the problem is not the backlight, we will try to provide repair pricing and parts availability if possible."

He (Lenny Merryman) went on to say that he hasn't had experience with ASUS laptops specifically, so he couldn't exactly diagnose it over email...
This company is in NY. I'm in CA... so if anyone is in NY, and happens to stop by and talk to them in person, could you make a post about it?
Thanks,
OrbLord
