is it possible to put a core 2 duo on a 9860 since it still uses the LGA 775 socket? I have the regular 9860 that is not upgrades with the new motherboards. Has anyone tried it yet?

It wont work. The 98x0 series doesnt have the proper chipset to run a Core series chip.

nope not possible.

Different power requirements among other things....although it would help with the 98XX's heat, which is largely from the P4.

Would it be possible if upgraded with the newest mobo?

Nope.... & I have the latest MoBo revision. It's my strong opinion that the 9890 will mark the end of the 9800 series. Future core2duo laptops will not be based off the D9 series. If anything, the new thinner powerful gaming laptops are pointing to the current trend in laptop designs. Heavy Bulky desktop replacement laptops are now being considered last gen technology. Agreed.

Heck, I'm not even sure if anyone at Clevo is working on a mobo BIOS and GPU BIOS just to put the 7950 in a Clevo D900T. I finally gave up waiting for it and settled for an upgrade to the 7900.

If we don't see the 7950 available for the D900T that would be a bad sign. It means us D900T owners won't likely see an upgrade path to a mobile version of the G80.

I'm sure it's smart business (not enough upgrade customers to justify the expense) but it sucks for those of us trying to eke out a little more life from our D900Ts.
