Oh why didn't you say so
You have the Power advanced setting set to 'Do Nothing' when the lid is closed.
Well I suppose the laptop does do nothing when the lid is closed and it stays on till the screen saver comes on.

I could have a look at this, this will be a registry tweak that will need to be enabled.
Lid behaviour for modern machines now is in the 30's.
I've not played with this much, never had cause to with my well behaved Gateway.

Yes, lol. Please keep me posted about any information you find. I want my LCD to turn off when I close the lid.

Ok, you guys are close with the "LidBehavior" setting, lol. When you enter the hex value '10' the display will definately shut off when you close the lid. This is because it forces the driver to auto switch from LCD to external monitor, upon hitting the lid trigger. Unfortunately when you reopen the lid, it doesn't auto switch back to the LCD. You then are forced to press the Fn+F8 key to get your screen back on... at least this is what happens with the Mobileforce G2 driver set (92.91's) I have been slowly comparing the two inf files (from the stock Dell drivers and the G2 set) to see if there is any settings that we are missing. Maybe even an extra file the Dell drivers have that the normal Nvidia set lacks... I dunno, its hard to compare files while driving down the road... at night nonetheless. lol

OK, I've just tried:

84.69 INF on 96.97, 92.91 87.25 and 84.98 and the LCD stays on

It could be the driver, NV might have made this driver with the lid fix build in just for Dell.
Dell drivers always have been a problem with this and other little quirks.

Next I'll confirm the Lidclosure settings 0x10
I did try Ox1 and 0x11 and 0x31 with no luck.
But have not yet tried the setting ending in zero 0x0 or 0x10 etc

I'll be back.

Krayziepop is right.
LidBehaviour Ox10, switches the LCD off when lid is closed but not on again (Fn+F8 does)
Quite odd how this tweak is HEX sensitive and not Binary (like normal)

I've tried to bit step this tweak (0x12, 0x14 and 0x18) but no luck in switching on the LCD again.
Nothing past 0x10 makes a difference as I tried 0x110 and 0xF0

Now I wonder what happens to other laptops if I add this to my INFs.
Is it worth fixing the i9400 problem for all other laptops to now have to press a key combo to switch the LCD on.
It is quite an important problem, the only way the LCD will switch off is with the power settings timing out or it will stay on indefinitly.
Good ol' Dell still has problems with this.
