How often does Hp release new models?

Does anyone know how often HP phase in new models and phase out old ones(with particular reference to notebooks)? Do they come out with replacement models every year?

I was reading a thread and someone was saying that certain places have already stopped selling nc8430. Is that true? I thought the 8430 is a relatively new model?

I know that there's never a good time to buy notebooks and one should buy it if they need it as technology always progresses. But it's a shame if I buy a model this week and they come out with a new model the following month. To put things into context, I'm planning to get a nw8440 within the next month and this model has been out since april so I'm wondering if hp will release a replacement relatively soon.

Not too fussed about santa rosa and vista but would be upset if they come up with a replacement model with a better gpu and specs. Thanks

My 2 cents -

1) Nobody really knows, and anyone who claims to know is ... uh ... confused.

2) Technology and money drives HP's schedule, just like everyone elses. If you hear about some neat new technogadget then expect a notebook with it embedded sooner or later. Obvious things like new processor chips will get first billing.

3) It is guaranteed, absolutely, positively that a new upgraded machine will come out soon after your purchase. If not by HP, then maybe Dell or Alienware and get you wondering what if I just waited.

Analysis Paralysis is a treatable condition. All you have to do is BUY SOMETHING.

Seriously, I would expect major upgrades to have a news release on one of HP's web sites prior to the new machines hitting the streets. It can be helpful to look at the HP web site in Hong Kong, for example, since I've noticed something show up there earlier that the States.

Ha ha thanks amigadude. I see what you mean. Actually I'm not too fussed about other manufacturers coming out with something better or if hp furnish the model with a new processor and upgrades as new technologies arrive. ie santa rosa or more efficient c2d processors. That is all fine and good.

I would be upset if a month after i bought the 8440, they come out with a completely new config 8450 ie new gpu, slightly different look and the whole lock stock and barrel.

there's a few things i can guarantee you:

1. ALL mfg's release new models when intel (or AMD) refresh or introduce new platforms. One this note, follow the industry and you will have a pretty good idea of when the new models (or updates) are coming, and probably when you can expect to see some discounts.

btw - The next one update is going to be a big one, with intel's santa rosa, likely something by AMD, DX10 gpu's from both Nvidia & AMD/ATI, and MSFT Vista all coming out early in '07.

2. Since this is HP related, the consumer notebooks get updates more often than the biz models do.

3. If you want the latest and greatest, you going to have pay for it. There will always be some mfg that beats the rest to market and they will price accordingly (e.g., no competition & high demand...) And buyer beware, since you will be the "early adopter", and everyone knows they always get screwed.

HP's business models are renewed once 9-12 months, so I would expect new models earliest next year, probably near the summer.

HP's consumer models are renewed much more often, so new ones pop up more often there and old ones disappear more quickly.
