Asus W1 Notebook - Page 3

Well, you don't have to wait for the M11. Are there any reason for choosing the M6 exclusively? If you are content with any laptop with Centrino and MR9700, you have three other options: The ECS G556, the Mitac 8050, and the Compal CL56.

I called ASUS today, and esctech is who they told me to go to also, so I am not quite sure why proportable claimed in an email to me that the head of ASUS notebooks would always send me to him (proportable.) The guy in notebook support at ASUS told me that esctech is not on their website, but would be his recommendation (when I asked for the most trusted vendor.)
This was a recommendation request for whitebox vendors, not vendors who rebadge the product with their own label. If ASUS is out of the market, that doesn't really bode too well for them does it???
Anyway...deltawalker....which Pentium-M notebook do you recommend???

I don't know what went wrong with Asus' notebook business in the US, but it's nice they are still offering their barebones to be resold by others here.

That is not the rule as I read it. I think the rule is to prevent vendors from having "shills" running rampant here, and hawking their wares. Also, to prevent specific pricing and where that pricing can be found.

Well, the whitebox channel is for rebranders.

And for my recommendations for other M11/Centrino notebooks, see my previous post. If you have trouble locating rebranded names for these barebones, I will be glad to inform you of their respective resellers.

My mistake.
Where is your previous post located??
Thanks,

aamsel,

asus doesn't have a notebook tech worth a dime.... considering they don't service their stuff anymore. call up asus and ask for jimmy, justin said jimmy is the head of the notebooks and that is most likely who he was referring to. he's the only one i've spoken with that spoke english, so I dont' know if you talked to justin or who ever, but he wasn't pulling your leg

NO THANKS!
I am not interested.
Nor am I going to buy from any business that tells me why they are good and everyone else is not. I don't patronize companies that "put down" others and their products.
(I won't spell it out for you, you can decide for yourself who I am talking about, ok?)

who and how...... are we not talking about the same people here?
Mr Boston I think he is talking about you. Its probably because recently, it seems as if every single post you make HAS to include ProPortable, or Asus. Nothing wrong with it if you ask me... we all do it sometimes. But some people might not like it.

looks like a fist fight a coming.... j/k

I've read the rules..... I also see what everyone else posts... which seem to break the rules. I had a great experience with a company and at this point in which i felt like i was talking with a friend and i've got someone who there for me when i need and at this point we even chat about baseball... so it doesn't get much better for me. I figure mentioning them is the least i can do for them.

but it's understood. I'll just put one of those tacky signitures about my system in my profile...... and i'll never mention them again.... but a little bit will be in ever post... lol.

but as far as ASUS goes... I'm not going to mentoin compal, quanta, mitac, whoever... because I've found they all don't meet up to asus...... this forum is really for people who are looking to get something, and people with laptops are supposed to help them......

I understand both sides, and i can be objective.

Back to the W1000.. I've been told the W1000 has already been sold to some guy I know who lives in milan (but I can't provide you photos nor a review, I barely know the man), who said is very happy with it. He bought the lower config (WXGA screen) for 2000 euros and he's basicly an office user ... What he liked most was the design, the size and the weight of the unit. When asked for 3d performance he said "what?" ... I guess we'll have to wait for somebody else... (why would an office user buy such a thing??? I WANT IT!!! I SHOULD HAVE IT!!! NOT HIM!!! MY TREASUREEE, MY SWEET LITTLE TREASUREEEE... IT'S MIINEEEE... MINEEEE.... )
Anyway if you ask me, at present time it's just too expensive. We'll see.

don't shoot me or anything, but i hear from my source (cough) that the W1's are having some software problems I think. Drivers to the tv tuner I beleive? If you search the home theather forums, you'll see that the asus digimatrix htpc had the same problems up till a little while..... video for tv was a little dark and sound coming from the tuner was a little crackly........

They fixed the digi w/ like 20 software updates in a few months.... The W still have time before it reaches the US, so maybe they'll fix it by then???? I hope so.

On a side note, i went into the local apple store today to pick up my mini ipod, and i would a picture of the w1 on one of thei cine 22"er's.... before I left some guy freaked and told a worker he wanted one...... then they semi freaked for the obvious reasons...... I'd never seen someone "act like nothing happened" better than this guy.... he totally ignored the customer.

On the upside to the visit, I finally got my mini ipod.... They didn't have a reason why apple wasn't fulfilling orders and I suggested maybe the fact that the microdrives in them retail for over $500, and people can get $400 easy on ebay........ perhaps knowledgable people ordered tons of them at $250.. then just scraped the ipod.......

you're guess is as good as mine.

I'm also a member of the best laptop website in French language where I usually put news so I will try to put them here at the same time

I'm also trying to open a shop in Europe to sell stuff from Japan where I've got some contacts but it is quite difficult

I will try to make a topic with Japanese laptops if that's ok with everyone
