The W1 looks awesome. Is there any other company selling this beside Proportable? Hopefully they will come out with a barebone, so I can save a few greens.
I am not sure if anyone else will sell the W1. I do not think you will find a barebones model anywhere. I also there will only be a small amount coming to the US
post #86 of 98
well I dont mean right away. If the W1 is hot, Asus will probably make a barebone.
There will never and i repeat never be a barebone model available.

Here are some new pics I haven't seen posted yet. The bottom one answers the question of how the hinge interacts with the surface the computer is on (it looks like it might touch the surface in previous pictures)

They are in stock at Proportable as of today.

I emailed proportable, and the model they are carrying DOES include the awesome hidden led array in the front panel !!!!!!
(As shown here)

Really wanna wait for the TV tuner but I can't decide between this laptop and the Sony A190....argh....

Norway is usally late with new models but a norwegian web shop is selling the Asus W1.

www.Quad.no is selling the W1, but it has bad spec and this version is quite expensive.
And proportable is also selling it: http://proportable.g2.cc/detail.aspx?ID=60

Really like this one more and more.
I wanted the Asus M6N before. W1 has lower batterycapasity (4hours) but it has a TV-tuner. But its heavy and have I dont know how the expansion is.
Can this notebook have 2 batteries, like the M6N?

I almost forgot...the English Manual had been up for a while: http://www.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/nb/W1N/W1N_ENG.zip

I just noticed the difference between these pics. What's the port next to the USB port in the top pic? It seems like the position of the USB port is different as well. The mysterious port is in the Chinese flash presentation as well, but nowhere else. In the manual the USB port is on the left and a Kensington lock slot is on the right. That corresponds with the bottom picture, but not the top.

Looks like a four pin firewire port
It looks vaguely like 4 pin firewire....

But, considering it seems the difference between models is TV tuner and no TV tuner, maybe that's what it's for? Doesn't look like a coaxial though....maybe a dongle is used.
I think you are right. It does look like a 4 pin firewire port. Here's a close up from the Chinese flash presentation: http://www.angelfire.com/un/deltawalkerl/SpecialR.jpg (I flipped the pic horizontally so it's the right orientation and erased the text)

But the FireWire port should be on the left side rather than the right:

So I think there are two possibilities: either there are two variants of the W1 (probably due to the TV tuner option), one has one FireWire port and the other has two FireWire ports. Or that the model with the FireWire on the right side of the notebook is an earlier prototype, and that Asus has since moved the FireWire port to the left side. I do vaguely remember seeing a model with three USB ports on the left side...

How do you know they will never be a barebone? Do you have any facts to back-up your statement?
