xps out of build stage - Page 3

n_lande,
Yeah I have the EXACT same config for XPS as you do...
Alienware configured the exact same minus of course the internal a/b/g card, 9600 vid card instead of the 9700 and the 1600X1050 instead of the 1900X1200 display runs about $3088... Which is what I will be getting if this XPS is not all it is cracked up to be....
Figured at this point I would just wait it out, because by the time I receive my XPS AW should have integrated the Internal Card again and integrated the 9700 graphics card, atleast according to the forum on AW and the rumors....

Also, you never know if once the AW comes out with the 9700 card they may run into similar issues dell has, ya never know... I guess with any laptop it is pretty much a gamble and many things could go wrong...

n_lande I hear ya... I was on the XPS wagon for awhile, but all these issues kinda frightened me off... sent a couple of emails to pctorque asking about their 8890, and got detailed emails back within a few hours. Don't know how Sager themselves handle the tech support later on, but the sales personnel on pctorque seem to trump Dell's any day... Just my two cents...

Just got off the phone with some guy from india. He was nice, but did not know much. Supposidly they will email me when they know more, we shall see. His explination was that there was a "delay in parts shipped." It kind of sucks that this system (if i decide to keep it) will have a month and a half build time. So... the only thing i am wondering now, is how hot do sagers get and how much noise do they create?

Check out that thread...
Yeah I spoke with guy from India last night said it was the subwoofer/battery they were waiting on...

From Dell Canada customer care this AM:

"There is a large backorder on RAM. 7 to 10 business day lead time."

Two days ago from another Dell source:

"Backorder of WUXGA screens."

Which lie to believe?
I was told that the processor is on a 17 business day lead time, don't know which processor though.
Neither.

"Waiting on GOOD Radeon 9700 units." is the only thing believable at this point
post #48 of 140
The person I spoke to transferred me to the "Notification" dept when I wanted more information on why it was being delayed. They did give me a direct phone number to that department which is 877-868-3355, just have your order number ready. I just called back again a few minutes ago and this other person was a moron and said he could only "legally" go by what the script told him which was it would ship on or before "April 5th". I plan on calling back again in a few minutes and seeing if I can get someone else to confirm what I was told yesterday...

That is my guess, but my favorite response was the one on the 9100 status thread.

It is a classic. As follows:

What the Hell is that about? So what else is Dell going to tell people? Well we were just about to ship your system but.... these guys in green masks broke into the factory and made off with your laptop..so there will be a slight delay.

It's hard for me to believe Dell would tell a customer that! But who knows...

Damn, better keep an eye on Ebay.

Well I've been able to get back on with the person I spoke to yesterday and now he claims that he got a message from manufacturing that the major delay to 9100 and XPS systems are the batteries.... didn't say if it was the primary 12 cell or secondary 16 cell... I'm on hold right now as he's trying to get in touch with someone else to get more details... I explained that I ordered on February 14th and still had yet to receive my system and was getting a bit frustrated (especially since some ppl here ordered just at the start of March and already have their systems)...
Follow up... He came back on the line after about 5 minutes, saying he sent an email to manufacturing to get more details and would call when he got a response.

Well I just got back from a meeting and had a message waiting from him letting me know that manufacturing told him they were experiencing problems with the main 12 cell batteries, 7 out of 10 tested were failing there tests, thus they stopped all shipments and were waiting on new batteries from the manufacturer. They are anticipating at least one more week for this problem to be resolved and have working batteries... he apologized for the problem and also upgraded me to next day air shipping at no additional charge. From talking to the guy, I don't feel like he was "reading a script" or just saying what I wanted to hear, and that this is the true cause of the delays for everyone at this time...

If any of you want to call in to the "notification" dept and try to confirm this, the number is 877-868-3355, most times there's no wait and someone immediately answers... the guy I spoke to was Jamie.

I called about 5 minutes ago, and was told it was a battery issue too. I didn't think to ask which battery till reading your post. I have both the primary and secondary batteries in my order. They wouldn't take off the primary battery to ship it any faster. Lovely. They did however, upgrade my shipping to overnight for no additional charge. Still though, I'm looking at Feb delivery which is really pissing me off.

The story I got today out of Dell Canada was a delay on P4 Extreme chips.... So add one more into the list of excuses....
Just got off the phone with an Alienware sales rep and they told me they could ship my system within 7 days..... Tempting... Especially after watching these 2 videos:

OK... Just went back an noticed I have done a lot of AW advertising here... but hey I am still in the right forum, until I cancel my XPS

In Build Process 15Mar04

In Canada, called Dell last week (10MAR04) and was told that the build would be delayed by ten days because of an Intel back-order on 3.4chips (20 days for Extreme).

Called Monday (15MAR04), and was told that my order was being built. Which is about five days earlier than was originally told.

Order: XPS 3.4 regular, 512ram, 60gb hd 7200rpm, ATI 9700, 1300wireless, and some other stuff.

Who knows how long it will be in build, but I will let you guys know when it ships...

Hah, I'm about 15 days in the 'being built' stage. Dell is now a running joke in my office.

16 Days in build here.
If I am not past build by 9am tomorrow (March 17th is the listed ship date) I am cancelling.

I admit the voodoopc price is just stupid, but theirs seems to be the only decent AMD64-3400 w/ATI9700-128. I can live with 1680x1050, but why does the voodoo price have to be sooooo high?

BTW also priced out a Sager and their price is much better for the same minus the 1920x1200 screen.
