8790 Screen Flickering

Thread Starter
My 8790 is currently having screen flickering issues.

In the past, the video memory was damaged (without me doing any overclocking or ventilation blocking) and it took them a two months to figure that out, then another two months to fix it without screwing something else up. When I got the computer back, the switch that turns off the LCD when the screen is closed was malfunctioning. The warranty company said this wasn't their problem, and I was just worried about having my computer back before finals to send it back to them. So now the flickering happens. I've gotten used to fiddling with the little tab to ensure the monitor stays on, but this flickering isn't fixed by that. I took off the keyboard and the silver facade right above the keyboard, and ensured that the plugs on the left were all solidly where they should be. Unfortunately, that didn't do anything, and my problem is still here. It will randomly start even if the computer is just sitting there, and doesn't seem to be affected by whatever I'm doing. If this is something that I need to send it back to the warranty company for, I'm going to "encourage" them to just buy me a macbook pro. I'm sick of this.

I believe (not sure) that there is a small grey/white ribbon cable that is "folded" that may have been damaged. You might try the warranty company again and demand that it be fixed.

Sorry to add to the bad news but most warranty companies won't even touch anything on your notebook that has to do with the LCD(unless you purchased seperate LCD coverage.) I know this sounds stupid, but thats just the way it is and pretty much every warranty company's policy out there. They make you buy a warranty for the notebook, and a seperate one for the monitor. HOWEVER, if the flickering issues didnt start occuring until AFTER they did the orginal repairs then you should defintaly be covered. Most likely that would be due to improper workmanship, and you should contact them stating that they have caused further damage to your notebook and they should cover any cost. Its worth a shot.

Charles - I didn't see any "exclusions" for the LCD for the policy that I purchased through PC Torque. It covered the "Unit" which includes the LCD. What gives?
