SONY XBrite replacement for Dell UXGA?

Thread Starter
I need to find a replacement for my broken LCD (don't have complete care). However, Dell wants to charge me almost $500 for the UXGA LCD.
I saw this one on Ebay, brand new SONY XBrite, and it costs half of the Dell UXGA LCD. I love SONY XBrite LCD, I think it's the best one out there.

Do you guys think that I could fit this LCD in Dell Inspiron e1705/9400?
It also has 2 CCFL backlight, which makes it brighter than standard 1 CCFL in Dell UXGA. Do you guys think the extra CCFL is okay for Dell Inspiron e1705/9400? Do I need to change the inverter?

Thanks.

I've got odds on it not working.

I also say it probably won't work. There's too many differences between different makes and models of Laptops. The panels might be Electronically compatible, but physically they probably won't. And by that I mean your Dell cable won't fit the Sony panel and the Sony cable won't fit your Dell.

It can work, the issues lie in the details.

LCD Panel Make/Model Revision
LCD Data Cable Connectors
LCD Data Cable Wiring Paths
LCD Panel Size/Dimensions
LCD Diagnostic Output

Those are the areas that will pass or fail any LCD transplant attempt. If you need more details let me know and I'll explain further.

Btw, I would recommend the revision used in the Toshiba 17" Qosmio. If you like WUXGA Glossy screens, that is the creme of the crop. I still prefer WXGA+/WSXGA myself though, 1920x1200 is too much for a 17" display.

ask the seller. he'll probably say yes either way, but no harm in asking.

Ah I read a few posts last nite and there were just differing opinions...apparently it worked with the SXGA+ but not with the WUXGA...Also ppl were saying that the two bulb xbrites needed an extra power wire (I guess you could wire em in parallel)...I just dont see how the SXGA+ Xbrite would only have one bulb as I just dont see how it would differentiate itself from other SXGA+ displays...I'd have to put my money on it not working though...
