OK, I give up. What machine are you using. Windows XP BIOS? Actually the BIOS is in EPROM inside a chip that is physically part of the equipment. The operating system may use the BIOS; however, has nothing to do with resetting it. If You have a Sager the "Control Sequence" is normally CONTROL-ALT-S when it prompts you to do this. You really don't have a lot of time to accomplish this before it is too late.

Here is what HP has to say:

"To check the current BIOS version on the computer, follow the steps below:

Click Start, Shut Down, Restart, and then click OK.
When the blue Hewlett-Packard screen appears, press F1 to enter the BIOS Setup.
The BIOS revision is listed on the Main menu. Make note of the current BIOS version; you will need this information to determine if a newer revision is available.
To exit the BIOS setup, press F10, select Yes, and then press ENTER."

I hope that this is helpful.

Getting to the bios is tricky...if you hold down the delete key before the keyboard is recognized, it will not work. If you know for sure that the hot-key is the Del key, then upon power-up, keep tapping it at high frequencies.

But since you have a system from a large OEM (HP), you will not have the option of OC from the BIOS.

I find that rapidly hitting hitting F1, F2, Tab, and Delete will usually get you into the BIOS, those seem to be the most common keys.

I fail to believe that anyone who doesnt know how to access the BIOS on an HP has any business trying to OC it.. Granted its not that hard now a days, you better make DAMN sure you know what your doing otherwise your hunk a junk is gonna be a paper weight like all HP's and Compaqs already are..

Uh you cant OC that thing at all, it wont let you just to let you know the MAX thing you can do is "up" the FSB.

I have always found out that it is better to just keep tapping on whatever key it is to get you into the BIOS as opposed to holding the key down. I start tapping the key the instant the PC starts to reboot until the BIOS Screen show's up, the PC may beep at you a few times when doing that but just ignore it and keep tapping...

OCing a laptop isnt a good idea, an OCed CPU eats MUCH more power than one at stock and it dosnt go up liniarly, it goes up expodentially with the CPU speed. But you shouldnt be able to OC anyway, it's a HP, the mobo wont let you do that.

first off it is not a laptop and second I do know how to oc but have not used an hp before and did not know it had to be done during the blue hp screen, this is my friends pc and he wanted to oc it even after I told him it probably wasn't possible
So there I am not a dumb ass, anyway I was able to get into the bios, and as expected it couldn't be oced

You’re going to have problems trying to OC an HP computer.
The bios will not allow you to do so. They lock the OC because
of warranty purposes. You can over clock the Cpu and memory
With software such as Easy Tune 5.0. It doesn’t work with all Mobo but
You can try it. You can find the software at Gigabyte.com. I have a Sony
Laptop that doesn’t have a Gigabyte Mobo and I’m running the software.
Good Luck

I loved the line about "I do know how to OC" "I just didn't know you do it during the bootup (his highly technical term was the blue HP screen"..
I'm guessing the guy caught on fire about 2 3/4 years ago

second best part was claiming to not be a dumb ass.. I'm sure all the donkeys of the world appreciated him distancing himself from their species..
