HP Special Edition L2000

My brother has this laptop and while using the AC power all the lights flashed and the notebook turned off. Every since then he has not been able to turn back on with battery or the AC adapter. I am guessing the motherboard has died. What are his options to get this laptop up and running again? Is it worth to try to find the motherboard to replace it? I have looked to see if I can find the motherboard but have not been able to. Is their a newer motherboard that I can put in their?
Thank you
Juan

I'm having the same problem, the local computer guy says its the motherboard problem, and that I should get a new laptop.

I have a similar story. I was using my HP (Hewlett Packard) Lance Armstrong Special Edition L2000 laptop last week and the computer suddenly shut off or died and wouldn't turn on again. I tried everything including removing the battery and tried to run it on the power adapter alone. Tried to run on battery alone. I held the power button down for a long time. I took out the memory, hard drive, wireless card, processor, heat sink and tried to turn on the computer with each combination of components removed and still no signs of life. I am pretty sure at this point that the motherboard is the problem. I had it plugged directly into the wall socket and there must have been a power surge that short circuited the main board. The main board model number is 394252-001 and the cheapest price I could find for it online was about 230 dollars. This system board is apparently also compatible with Compaq Presario M2000, Compaq Presario V2000, and HP Pavilion ze2000.
