Dell Inspiron 9100 - Worth Upgrading?

Thread Starter
G'day all,

I'm a graphic/web designer, and recently I've begun my foray into print design. The main difference? The requirements are far greater. Here are my machine's specs:

512 MB RAM
80 GB Hard Drive
64 MB Video Memory

I'm considering upgrading the RAM to 2 GB at the cost of about $250. Is it worth it at this point, or should I simply set my sights upon a new laptop?

alright, im a designer myself. Though this is an old thread, unless you really want to play the newest games, you are fine with the 9100 platform. Do get matching 1 gig sticks (dual channel), a smokin big hard drive, and maybe up to a 128mb 9700 or even the 9800 but unless you are rendering 3D, you will be okay. All adobe products are hyperthreading and dual core optimized and I would still be using my 9100 if Dell didn't exchange it.

1. you should be able to find the memory cheaper than $250
2. Get the biggest 7200 rpm hard drive you can.
3. If you start racking up the $$$ on upgrades, you can always get a refurb E1705 from the outlet with a core duo. Adobe + core duo = happy.
