Sager 8790 benchmarks and clocking - Page 2

So what do you use to keep the overclock settings? The standard drivers won't let you. Do you boot with Powerstrip or load it afterwards?

Powerstrip, once it's loaded up and set, the settings stay. Yes, it will launch with startup.

As soon as Sager/Clevo decide to put the miltiplier interface in the bios =)... no breath holding here though.

Shucky-Darn...

Will the BIOS let you play with the FSB?

Nope, that would be dangerous in the hands of many on these forums I'm sure they know =).

Talk about performance junkies...
The laptop has barely been in people's hands for any amount of time and it's already being overclocked...

What a great re-affirmation of why I'm in this forum. =)

Understandable... I managed to corrupt my registry a week back trying to o/c my desktop CPU. Thank god for the XP roll back.

Is it better to overclock with the standard drivers and powerstrip or use the Omega drivers? I now know what to use to duplicate Adam's experiments, but has anyone else used or have any opinions on overclocking programs such as powerstrip or rather use driver based overclocking via Omega?

I use ATiTool wit the standard Catalyst drivers. It comes highly recommended, I mention it earlier in this thread...

ok. I don't really like the program though. Its controls are not very intuitive. Is it better for you then to not boot the computer with the overclocking already enabled? Would it really affect the lifespan of the components and/or battery life by individually controlling oc?

Overclocking your grahpics takes more juice, so it will eat up battery time. The added juice generates more heat, and heat kills.

So if you can overclock only when needed, then underclock when there isn't a deep need for graphics, that would be best.

Same goes for your CPU.

or just never fiddle and trust what you have is the best possible settings

Pretty much how I do it Doubt anyone'll read my 8790 review when I'm done w/ it. No OCing or benchmark proggies from me.
ill read your review.

I'll be posting mine tonight.

Well, we've had our 8790 in for a few days now and have played with the clock frequencies. Generally have found that it's only possible to go about 40MHz over on core and less than that with the mem (around 20-30 extra MHz) - got some really nasty artefacting at anything more than that.
I have had my 8790 set at 513engine/330.75memory. I've had no artifacts with the latest omega drivers. I've run at this setting for approximately 10 days.
mine doesn't artifact, it just tears really bad. I am running mine like 472 and 290 memory I think with hours of gameplay.
