Wireless LAN Range Problem

Thread Starter
Just got mine and it is cool. Screen is certainly a little dull but will probably get used to it, although how do I disable brightness drop when on battery power.
My main problem is that the wireless lan card has a range of about 10 feet. After that it degrades and cuts out after about 5 mins and then is very difficult to get back again. Any hints??

Wireless devices are prone to interference from other devices, try changing channels on the router.

I've been having problems with my NEW LinkSys AP. Had a second sent to me as it was worse then using a friends Dell to be the AP. Both LinkSys AP's had very bad range - they are going back!

This is starting to get off topic, but can anyone give me a recommendation on a wireless router? Something to plug my cable modem into and serve 11b and 11g clients. Obviously it would need to work well with the card that comes in the Sentia

I use the linksys products and am very impressed with them, they have also improved 10 fold since they were bought by Cisco.

Have a poke around their site & find a product that fits your needs.

(And it does work well with my Sentia)

SMC has some nice models using 200mW prism chipset.

The current card on the Sentia is the 802.11b Intel 2100 which will work great with the above featured SMC router. Intel is planning to release the Intel 2200 802.11g mini PCI card at the end of this month.

Join the club, dude. Hardly anybody is having success with that craptacular wireless card.

The Intel 2100 that comes with the Sentia is a great performer. The antenna is also routed to the LCD for best reception. The Intel 2200 802.11g is slated for release March 30, 2004.

I hope to see change in th cards used with the Area-51m2 which has many reports of reception issues.

Thanks guys, that helps. I've picked out a Linksys router that looks pretty good, and has good reviews too.
