9400/E1705 audio drivers.

I assume these will work on the M1710 as well?

Nvidia 97.34 Vista drivers.

http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1527

I haven't tried these but would like to hear how they work.

BTW, I tried to install the Audio driver in the Dell CD that came with the laptop and it works and enables the subwoofer.

I'm talking about a 9400 with Vista 5840. Certainly, many XP drivers work in Vista.

I've been running these on my M1710 and there are issues. Seems to cut in and out occasionally.

Is there any improvements/changes over the XP one? I never liked it.

I don't know I don't go in it, I just have it running to get my function keys working properly.

You'll need to uninstall the beta before installing these.

Very informative thread...

I'm looking to switch to vista on my 9300...I saw there isn't much on the dell website as far as drivers for my machine, could someone who has installed vista (clean install) on their 9300 tell me what other drivers they had to download?

I'm weighing the difficulty of switching now rather than later.

How is performance compared to xp?
My 9300 is on vista. Everything runs fine. The sound driver and a few other drivers needs to be installed through windows update. The subwoofer even works with microsoft's drivers! Performance wise, I think vista is solid. Not extremely fast, but I would say it is comparable to xp except the video driver. I would stick with the video driver vista installs for you. It seems stable. Nvidia has horrible support for vista at the moment.
In fact, after I installed the new vista drivers listed earlier on this post, my screen would not turn on after long period of time. I have to go into standby to log in again to have the screen turn on. I do have a second monitor plugged in, so maybe that is the problem?

These drivers dont work. Subwoofer works but sounds break every other second. I moved back to vista drivers for now. h0p3l355is4 try Vista drivers from laptopvideo2go. I am using that on my E1705 w/ 7900 GTX and they work great. I personally like Vista. Seems more stable, secure and feature enriched. Only downside, it is a memory hog.

Don't you have lots of ram? Unused ram is useless, I have 2.5 GB, I say eat it up windows.

question about the version of vista people are using, whats the deal with DX in it? Is it DX10 or DX10emulated or w/e it is or is that being held til the actual release?

Vista comes with DirectX10 and DirectX9(Custom version). When Vista went RTM it's feature complete nothing get's held back for the public release.

You can install the WinXp driver for the Sigmatel audio card. That way you get the subwoofer to work. The only downside is the startup app doesnt work, but I didn't use it in the first time.
