ALIENWARE 1.05 BIOS - Page 2

Yes, unless you're willing to re-flash your BIOS.

Can someone relate exactly what a bios update does for you? Does it make the compy faster overall? What constitutes an 'updated BIOS' (i.e., what changes are made between iterations that makes a latter version better than a former version?

Just wondering whether or not I should call up tech support and do this, or if this is just another way to increase performance 0.00067% (for you techie types who must have that extra [if miniscule] boost in power). Thanks

AW BIOS updates have ben hit or miss with many systems Terra.

If your system is running fine, don't kill the cat with curiousity. If it ain't broke, then don't F with it.

These bios are a joke i went onto the alienware knowlege base and they explained to me, my exact problem and I solved it. All I had to do was put it on enabled not flashing. This version is most stable i guess.

So, how are you supposed to do a BIOS Flash anyway? That is one update I have never done before. I have been having troubles with my Area51m, lots of bluescreens o' death. The Microsoft Online Crash Analysis says it is a device driver, but won't identify it. I just reformatted and installed with all the updates from the Alienware website, still doesn't seem to help. Anyone have any ideas?

Call Alienware's Tech Support Pile. That is the only way to flash your bios without loosing your warranty. They like to have you on the phone and walk you through the process so as not to do any perm damage to your motherboard.

history of AW Bios...

I have stored on my computer AW Bios V. 1.05, 08, 09, 13, 14, 16. If anyone needs them you can msg me or email me or however it works on this board. I have tried almost every version, and every version has given me random lockups so I stopped flashing and just download them for the hell of it. I'm a sucker for driver updates, except this is the first time the driver updates from a company HURT your computer rather than help it. Funny ****.

I always thought that newer meant better when it came to drivers too! Then recently I started having problems with my desktops video performance while playing Battlefront 1942 online. While playing Desert Combat mod on a public server, I noticed that the Iraqi's tanks were invisible, but you could see the soldier sitting about 3 feet above the ground and moving along like he was on a flying carpet. While standing there on a hill watching this crazy picture unfold, I started wondering if I somehow could use this to my advantage. Just wondering, mind you!
As I turned to run back up the hill, I looked up just in time to take a sabot from that Iraqis invisible tank's main gun right square in my face. Nah!, advantage to the Iraqis for sure. I also found that when I got anywhere near a firefight involving actually getting my video card working hard that I would go snowblind and was pretty much target practice for the opposition.
I couldnt figure out what was wrong, because everythng was up to date on my machine and went home to mull it over. As it turns out, Nvidea had released a faulty driver update to some of its affliated Fansites and download servers. I had one of those and actually fixed my problem by going to an older version. After that, I stopped using that old rule of thumb, and don't update unless there is a problem or a measurable gain in performance is expected. lol.
By the by: I am using Bios version 80009 dated 2\10\04, and have had no problems with this part of my laptop whatsoever. Of course its the smallest setup area, I have ever encountered on a computer. If they didn't have the flashing eyes option in there and maybe the touchpad disabling available there, I think they could get rid of setup entirely.

Guys i am willing to re-Flash my bios but do the bios have anything to do with the fan noise/video game preformace?
If they do please im(instant messange me with the default bios)and guide me through the way....My aim sn is vahe99 e mail= vahe99@aol.com

Vahe - The BIOS does not have any effect on fan noise, but it might help your games, but could also cause your system to become unstable. If your pc is stable, don't F*ck it up, the game improvement will be marginal at best. You can't see the eyes when you are using the pc, so what does it matter if they flash their little hearts out?

Actually it might have affect on the fan noise because if its running much heavier it will need more power to cool it down right? Can you also tell me what version 080009 for the bios are?
