I always thought that newer meant better when it came to drivers too! Then recently I started having problems with my desktops video performance while playing Battlefront 1942 online. While playing Desert Combat mod on a public server, I noticed that the Iraqi's tanks were invisible, but you could see the soldier sitting about 3 feet above the ground and moving along like he was on a flying carpet. While standing there on a hill watching this crazy picture unfold, I started wondering if I somehow could use this to my advantage. Just wondering, mind you!
As I turned to run back up the hill, I looked up just in time to take a sabot from that Iraqis invisible tank's main gun right square in my face. Nah!, advantage to the Iraqis for sure. I also found that when I got anywhere near a firefight involving actually getting my video card working hard that I would go snowblind and was pretty much target practice for the opposition.
I couldnt figure out what was wrong, because everythng was up to date on my machine and went home to mull it over. As it turns out, Nvidea had released a faulty driver update to some of its affliated Fansites and download servers. I had one of those and actually fixed my problem by going to an older version. After that, I stopped using that old rule of thumb, and don't update unless there is a problem or a measurable gain in performance is expected. lol.
By the by: I am using Bios version 80009 dated 2\10\04, and have had no problems with this part of my laptop whatsoever. Of course its the smallest setup area, I have ever encountered on a computer. If they didn't have the flashing eyes option in there and maybe the touchpad disabling available there, I think they could get rid of setup entirely.
