Hello,

I have had a Toshiba Qosmio for about a year now and the specs say the RAM is upgradeable to 4 gig but so far the max i have been able to install is 2 gig because I havent found any 2 gig stix...

Do you guys know where I can get 2 gig RAM stix and have any of you actually upgraded your laptop ram to 4 gig? do you notice big differences?

any links regarding this issue would be nice and your comments... thanks

They are still pretty rare. I saw that 2GB DDR2 SODIMM's can be purchased from Kingston for just under $1000 each. LINK. Just enter your model and it should take you to the options they have available for it.

I haven't seen anybody that has upgraded to 4 gigs yet and don't expect the upgrade to be that much in comparison to already having 2 gigs, unless you do some serious ram intensive work.

plus windows XP can only recognize less than 3 GB cause the rest is used for hardware or something, but either way WIndows does not support a full 4 gigs, maybe vista will?

32 bit XP pro can use up to 4 GB, equally divided between the kernel and application usage. This can be changed to get 3GB to be addressed by an application while the remaining GB will be addressed by the kernel (LINK). You have to use a \3GB switch in the boot.ini file (LINK)
But I've never tried it nor heard of anybody that has.

64bit xp can use up to 128GB (IIRC) and Vista should be able to addess substantially more than XP. Vista home basic having a max of 8GB and the more advanced versions go up from there.
