when i adjust the angle of my lid, my screen's brightness will fluctuate but return to normal. is there anything wrong with this?

You sure it's not just the light refracting a different way while you're moving it?

could be a loose connector or what pyro said.
Does it flicker or is it a gradual change when you move the lid?

it flickers

loose connection going up to the backlighting or its inverter (small circuit board that powers the flouro backlight tubes).
I would suggest getting in contact with Sager and ask them what would be the best way to fix it. Should just be a matter of taking off the kb and pushing connectors back in.
Do you have the service manual for the 8890? If not go to my review in the reviews sub forum and click on the link there for the service manual. It may help you located the connectors. The manual is about 10Mb (PDF file).

Loose LCD Panel

Speaking of LCD Panels...
Here's another question.

I had this Sager 8890 since last august, and perhaps this is just normal wear and tear, but my lcd panel is starting to get a little loose. It has just under an inch of "give" and so it kinda rocks back and forth when up. This is getting rather annoying. I havn't done anything to try and fix this yet, and I have been very busy. Just wondered if anyone else had a similar experiance and knew a quick solution.

Thanks a bunch,

Mine would only have about 1/2 inch of play at best. Could be the friction bearings in the hinges have become a bit loose. Short of pulling the cover off the lid there is no easy way to tighten them. I suggest you contact Sager and ask them what they think might work.

i'm afraid this will happen to mine, and to help combat it, i only move my screen from the top of the screen, so that i have to apply less force and thus less stress on the hinges.

torque is a wonderful thing!
