M35X 1beep 3beeps 3beeps 1beep

Hi all,
I have an M35X. On power up it makes the following beeps:
1beep 3beeps 3beeps 1beep
fan runs for a few seconds the turns off
then just sits there
also has no video display

On occasion it does start up and display the post test.
Any ideas?

Can you be more specific on the beeps? These laptops issue 8 beeps that are either long or short and translate into a binary code that can identify the problem.

In other words you need to specify which beeps are long and which are short.

Thanks for the reply. All beeps are the same. Since they are all the same I am guessing that they are short. Thanks for your help. 1beep 3beeps 3beeps 1beep

What's the interval between the beeps? Will it do that then reboot?

I am not familiar with that pattern, but I though the 8-beep things related to video card problems.

its about a year late, but... its better to get this information on the web for someone else. I had the exact same issue, beep, pause, beep, beep, beep, pause, beep, beep, beep, pause, beep 1-3-3-1 I was taking apart the laptop to clean the dust out out of the heatsink because it was overheating 24/7. All went well untill i tried to start it up after putting it back together. I got the 1-3-3-1 beeps all identical in length About an hour later I figured out I didn't push in the ram hard enough and it was not seated properly. So... This may not be the correct answer 100% of the time, but try checking that the ram is seated properly before decided to let Toshiba service your laptop. Don't let Toshiba steal your money for not posting bios beep codes on the internet! That information should be common knowledge available on their website >_<!

Hi, Just registered in order to say a big "Thank You"...

For the past couple days I was getting random 1-3-3-1 on my Toshiba Satellite until today when it died.

Thanks to this post, I removed and replaced the RAM and Bingo! It's working again. So thanks guys, you've saved one user some dosh, greatly appreciated.

Just FYI: I was working on a friend's Toshiba of the exact same model; I got the exact same beep sequence (1-3-3-1), and I found that it was a problem with the way the RAM was seated, just as others in this thread have discovered. The laptop works perfectly now.
