positives: great processor, vista business upgrade
negatives: will not even let me pay to upgrade to 7900gs, still dont get dvdrw, will have to buy ram again.

couple of questions:
- Can I just buy the 7900GS and pop it in, or do I need to get a different power supply then what comes with it.
- can the cdrw/dvd be taken out and replaced with a hdd in a caddy. (they are not giving me a dvdrw, so might as well put an hdd in there and continue using my external dvdrw)
- looking to replace the 512 with 2gb ram. I assume 667Mhz is compatable and will work. Which of these would you suggest: http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...asp?CatId=2268

thanks.

the 7900GS will just pop right in without a problem, thats all i know from your questions :P

EDIT: by the way, how long did it take you to get news of your replacement?(from the time of issuing) I've waited 4 days now (yes I know thats not very long) and I can't wait until I get them, just to make sure my 6800go will be replaced with a 7900GS lol

talked to them on the 17th and approved for replacement. service call for replacement shows on 21st with no info. partial info shows first two lines of specs today. called customer care and got order number and remainder of specs. estimated arrival date dec 5th, but probably will show up sooner.

check open service calls in your online account.

Hmm so far under the account, *service issued on the same day as yours* there is no news, and no part information. Seems to be that their having problems locating a suitable computer for replacement

hah, thanks, and I MAY get an M1710, depending on if they have any with a 7900GS etc, before they find an E1705 with the parts

1. Yes, no problem.
2. Yes, if you can find a caddy. They have been sold by some here. They are made in China. I have one it works great.
3. As long as it is 200pin, it should be fine.

one question on the caddy larry....does it fit flush like it belongs there or does it look like a modded fit.

would you happen to have a picture of it in the laptop?

thanks

I had trouble getting the bezel to line up, so I ditched that. A pic would not do it justice without that. I could have shaved it off to fit correctly. I have no bezel on mine. It sits regressed in the case. I have to use a screw
driver to pull it out.

That is the thread where, I originally got mine. It definately does not look like it is made for the notebook, but it works. I have a Visa partition on mine. I dual boot it and XP.
