8800 or 7950

hey guys..
i was wondering... the 7950 has 1gb ddr3 but the 8800 only has 768mb ddr3... does that mean the 7950 is better?
im confused...

I would suggest the 8800, it supports DX10, which will give you a hell of a lot more benefits than the extra 256mb of vram.

The 8800 is a good amount faster when both using DX9, and supports DX10, which will stomp DX9 performance.

2 things:

Do you know this is a notebook forum, and the dell 17" laptop section of that forum, and that neither of these are available on laptops?

The 8800 is going to be much much faster than the 7950. ram is not what makes a video card fast; the only current application for that much vram is in cad modeling at very very high resolution.

The 8800 GPU is over 3 times the size of the 7950 GPU. Just 1 8800 beats 2 7950's in SLI.

8800 will toast 7950.... You have the new DX10 card to compare with 7950 is an unfair comparsion.

the OP was pointing out the 7950 GTX because the mobile version is not a SLI card nor does it have 1GB of Vram.

7950GTX != mobile 7950 GX2. The desktop equivalent of the 7950GTX Go would be more like a 7900GTX, where as the 7900 GTX Go is more like a 7900GT.

7950GTX = available in laptops
7950GX2 = not available in laptops/SLI in one card.

7950GTX Go= 7950GT
7900GTX Go= 7900GT

The 8800GTXGo is far more better than any 7950GTXGo overclocked, and is more powerful than dual 7900GTX or dual 7900GS.

It exists, but Nvidia "prefer" to wait for a commercial launch with Vista and SantaRosa.

Anyone know if the 8800 Go will be compatible with current MXM standards? be a drop in replacment for people with M1710's today?

doubtful. Speculation is that there will be no 8800 support for any existing laptops. Dell will likely release a new set of lappys to use mobil 8800s, santa rosa, and intel's quadcore CPU. (and oooo maybe they'll release a 19" laptop [big I know but alienware has one don't they?])

But who knows maybe we'll get lucky.

Also a suitable cooling solution and power supply needs to be developed by manufacturers. Not saying that doesnt exist already, but either way its all just speculation.

As far as I know, Intel has not even announced any plans for a quad-core laptop CPU, let alone given a release date for such a CPU. Do you have any different information?
