A. Get Linux.

B. It could be considered expensive, I agree that some software is indeed expensive, but the great majority of people that whine just feel that software companies should give them everything for free.

C. That takes time to develop and therefore has a cost by the evil software companies that spend thousands of man hours and for some reason won't give you their commercial software for free, if you don't agree just make your own software.

D. Perhaps M$ is going a bit too far to protect their software. Now, Vista demand that you do 50 sit-ups to open that word file.

Unfortunately, I found that Linux does not play nice with my Sony Vaio (nor does XP until a whole lot of proprietary drivers from Sony have been installed).

The advent of Vista and the horrible DRM and other issues you have all mentioned makes me convinced my next pc will be a desktop, handbuilt by moi from selected parts. Parts will be selected on the basis of how well they support Linux and vice versa.

I love Windows Vista

Vista is pretty cool and I can see why they would charge a pretty penny for it. The OS is the backbone of the system and is "supposed" to make everything play nice together which from what I have seen in the past sometimes take a while to achieve. I'm glad they decided to cripple the OS the way they did for anti-piracy. As long as it doesnt interfere with paying customers.

But I wouldnt whine too bad tho' as WinXP is still here and works pretty good IMO so all the hackers and piraters deserve what they get. No $$$ no OS. I'm not going to be able to afford it the day it releases like many people, but I am also happy with XP too. Vista is nice, but not necessary. Yet....(thinking of dx10 games and x64...)

So, if you have a complaint, you're either a pirate or hack. Now if my legal copy gets crippled, we have a problem billy....

I have more confidence in the hackers than I do microsoft. Hackers will have work arounds out in a matter of days.

I wonder what they will think of next
agreed, hackers can maneuver around the flaws and eventually get it working.

as i always say if someone can make it, someone can unmake it. the simple fact of it is that there are many more people working to crack the security from MS than are working on making it. its a situation that microsoft just simply cannot win. my bet is that the hackers will find a way to defeat it and likely in such a way that microsoft wont have an easy way to work around the breach.

Ok, all Vista vs XP notes aside, I think that Vista is just a test run for Vienna. Just like ME was for XP.

While I like Vista and some of its cool features, personally, I will stay with XP for a bit more.
