which one to take? -gaming laptop-

Thread Starter
I`ve been looking for a good laptop , not only for gaming but also for some drawing and design works.
I would be playing games like , WoW , Heroes V ,The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and some other online games. And I`d be using photoshop, corel , painter , and a wacon intuos for drawing and designin`.
I`ve been looking for good laptops so I can keep them for couple years , and also storage pictures, videos.

First I look for a Dell , I found their XPS M1710 which looks really good , but the price is too high .
I was looking for something around 1,000 USD or 1,500 USD.

with a core Core 2 Duo processor
a 17" screen
a good GPU , ( i saw the GeForceā„¢ Go 7950 GTX , but it is really expensive , i was wondering if there are good ones with a lower a price)

1GB DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHZ
80GB 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive

I really don`t care about the weight

And would be nice if it had a wireless card

What notebook should I take?Any suggestion?

I`ve been looking for at Dell and Sony , but most of them look expensive.

Well , thank you very much. I hope you guys can help me !

Ps: I`m new here , if I did something wrong sorry about that. And , yep , I did some research , but I still don`t know each one i should get. Thanks

You can get a dell e1705 (17inch, C2D, 7900gs) for around $1500 with coupons. You can also overclock the 7900gs with a bios flash (check the dell 17inch forum).

For coupons check the deals/coupons forum.

You could also get an 7800gtx from rjtech, but you'll need to have your own ram/hdd to bring the cost down to $1500.

If you want the 7900gtx/7950gtx you're going to have to pay over $1500 and in most cases $2000.

You could try your luck at Dell's outlet, if you're from the US.

thanks for the hint rickster!

I`ll probably take this one !

Is the 7900gs good enough for gaming?
If it is , e1705 is perfect for me !

thanks a lot !

Yes the 7900gs is a fine card, you can even overclock it nicely with the gsx mod seen here.

I think you mean the 7700?
Asus has a few models with that GPU, namely the A8js (and next year they'll make newer models with it), which is a fine machine and should play games at medium/high settings with it's 1440x900 resolution. The a8js is also one of the best bang for your buck deals outside the e1705 and coupons..

Yeah, I meant Go7700 512mb version, and the A8JS was the model I was looking at. I just didn't want to be disappointed with games though............... I've read that I will.

It sounds more like the desktop 7600GT to me, is that what you meant? I think both has 5/12 pipelines. The 7600go has 5/8 pipelines

i saw some performance tests and its about the same as GO 7600gt. the desktop 7600gt is about twice as fast as go 7600gt
