Sager 5860 PLEASE HELP

hiya I am a new prospective laptop owner. i have been looking for a new laptop for about a month. I have read everything I can find and finally decided on the sager 5860 for my new laptops. I have a few quick questions that I hoped you all could help answering.

Overall I am looking for a desktop replacement which will travel little. I play Everquest and will play Everquest 2 when it comes out.

I have 2500 to spend (wife limited amount )

I hope to also use it for web browsing, some word processing, and burning DVD's of my son

I own an external Sony DVD+-RW/+-r now.

Ok questions?

1. Opinions on need for internal DVD writer vs just the dvd/cdrom combo?

2. EQ players any problems forseen with playing EQ a sager 5860?

3. IS paypal a safe way to pay PCTorque for my computer? and if i use a credit card does that slow my delivery date at all?

4. trying to decide if i purchase the port replicator? any reason to buy it if i dont plan on using an external keyboard and I hope to use a bluetooth mouse?

5. does a bluetooth mouse and printer exist that makes the internal bluetooth option useful?

6. does getting the 2 gigs of RAM now make any sense if i never intend to do high graphics?

7. Last Questions with the hope of gaming in EQ which of the monitor options sxga vs uxga if better and will i see any difference?

thank you so much in advance. you all have been very helpful in answering many questions. PCtorque employees have also been nothing but patient with me.

6 -> 2 Gigs of RAM is overkill...I do intensive graphics and 1 Gig does it for me for now. Not worth the price atm. Wait till next year when 4Gig is commonplace and 2 Gig becomes affordable...

3 -> PC Torque is a highly recommended dealer. You shouldnt have any need to worry about your purchases made through them. Call them to sort out your payment questions and other questions as well.

5 -> Bluetooth devices exist and its probably worth it if you have everything and if you REALLY require bluetooth...or else just stick to wires and cables and do away with the unnecessary expenditure.

7 -> PLEASE do yourself a favour and get the 5680 with the UXGA LCD. This is the ONLY reason I really want a 5680/8890 because this LCD is really awesome. It scales down very well too...all resolutions can be used without noticeable loss in picture quality.

The Internal DVD Burner is okay, but I'd go for an external, or mebbe an internal in an enclosure.

Personally, I avoid PayPal. PCTorque's credit card system is fine. Check is a little slower, but it's worth the money saved.

You probably won't need the port replicator. It has 4 USB2.0 ports and PS/2 port.

Chan17,

I first read your post and couldn't believe how identical your situation is to mine! I too am looking at getting a 5680 very soon to play EQ2/WoW (had been playing EQ on a desktop for several years). Plus I'd like to use it for a bit of travel such as yourself.

From what I've read (mostly on this board), it's worth it to get the 7200RPM 60GB drive. I'll likely go with 1 GB ram, 3.2Ghz chip, UXGA monitor, and wait and get an external DVD burner if I need it.

So far, the main downside for me is the absence of a separate numeric keypad - but I guess if it's too much of a pain I can always get an external one.

Good luck!

I have been playing EQ with my new 5680 for the last month and it runs great. No problems what so ever. I am running with a gig of memory btw.

I can answer the screen question.. Go for the Uxga. I got the Sxga+ on my 5680 and it's good and all but the veiwing angles are pretty slim. Looking back I wish I would have just gotten the Uxga. For the price differance (90$ or like that) it's for sure worth it.
