i6000d gpu running way too hot

Back in the day, my x300 would run in the 40s at idle and high 50's / low 60's under load. Recently, it's been idling in the mid 60's and getting to around 88-90 under load. The keyboard is absolutely scorching where the gpu is. I took the entire laptop apart and removed all dust from the area and checked the contact of the heatpipe. Still no dice. !!!!!!

edit: I should note that cpu is absolutely fine, idling in the 30's and loading in the high 40's / low 50's.

well so I took apart the laptop again and this time took off the heatsink assembly. Removed the TIM, and applied a nice layer of AS5 to the gpu and ram. Still loading up at around 80'c, although it seems a bit more under control than before, when it was 88-90. What the hell is going on.

edit: alright so when it was 78'c, I decided to shut it off and screw everything back together. I took a feel first and noticed that the heatpipe and spreader above the gpu is scorching hot. Can't keep my finger there for more than a few seconds. But if I follow the pipe, it's pretty much dead cold. So it looks like the heat isn't moving down the pipe for some reason. I'm out of warranty at this point. What am I to do?? What happened?? I wonder if it's a solid copper pipe or if they use some sort of salt compound inside the heatpipe to help it transfer the heat.

Damn.

my x300 idles at about 55-60 after playing games. If i start wow up it goes to 70+ and usually 74-75 with fans (quite warm)

A heat pipe is not just a copper pipe. Im not sure on Dells design but generally a heat pipe contains a fluid thats boiled by the heat which travels up the middle of the pipe to the condenser end, gets cooled by the condenser/fins, and travels back to the source of heat as a liquid. Examine the heat pipe, perhaps it cracked.

You most likely need a new heat sync. I doubt youll get a heat sync with out the card. Hopefully the cards are cheap. Good luck.

yeah I figured as much. I recall reading a while ago about a sort of a salt compound of some sort with a bit of liquid. Last time I checked, I did notice a little kink in a spot, and figured that must have been it. But it's not like that's something that's servicable. Clearly it hasn't leaked out or anything though, although I'm sure the flow is restricted. I've got a desktop now so I'm just letting it be. It's just running really hot but doesn't seem to affect stability that much
