Linux-Laptop Goodies!

Ok, so I figured I'd announce this here, since it's the Linux Laptop place I visit the most. My mom, the computer collecting nutjob that she is lol, has about 8 laptops that she's bought over the years that she wants me to sell on eBay for her. *disclosure: I get 40% of the proceeds*. I've decided that if I am going to do it, I'm going to wipe Windoze off of the drives of each and every one, and preload linux on them (probably Ubuntu for it's hardware detection, or straight Debian for a lighter footprint on the older ones). So if anyone is interested in any of the below, shoot me an email at ollysk2 ((((((AT)))))) gmail ((((((((DOT))))))) com

I'm not sure of exact specs, and/or any issues (though she says all of them work, there may be problems here and there), but this is what it looks like I'll have for sale:

Toshiba MMX (not sure of model or proc speed, but has 128mb of ram), I will have two of these. My mom says that they have great, bright screens, and both work well.

Three Dell Latitude CP's: These all have 5gb HDD's (I think), 233mhz Proc and 64mb of ram. I've got a mix of accessories for them (battteries, swappable floppy/cd-rom drives/ etc), and all work well, though one has a dimming screen I think.

Two Dell Latitude LS's: badass little sub-notebooks, 256mb of ram, not sure of the HDD capcity.

Dell Latitude L400, also a cool little sub-notebook, weighs nothing, I think it's a 733mhz, though I'll have to verify that.. works perfectly, 256mb ram.

I'm also going to sell my personal laptop, a Dell Inspiron 2200, Celeron 1.3ghz, 756mb RAM, 30gb HDD, currently running Ubuntu Edgy, though it has run any number of linux distros since I owned it. The only issue it has is that the headphone jack doesn't work.

Anyway, if anyone is interested, shoot me an offer. I'll have these up on eBay in the next couple of weeks, but y'all can have first dibs... I'll even act as your personal email linux support tech on these .... but for someone who wants a laptop to play with linux on, but doesn't want to go full on linux on your main machine, these work well. Also, the LS's and the L400 are great little travel laptops, as they are smaller then hell.

Long live *nix!!!

It would probably be a good idea to provide more information about the laptops. You can easily to this by running a LiveCD and then reading values from /proc/cpuinfo, /proc/meminfo, and running fdisk -l to get the laptop hard drive sizes. You might want to also list the output of: lspci

LOL, I know Ryan, it's more an issue that I haven't picked all of them up yet. However, I did load up three this weekend:

Dell L400, PIII 700mhz, 20GB HDD, 256mb RAM, 1 USB Port, 1 PCMCIA, No Wireless, 1 Ethernet Port, 12in Screen, 1 Inch Thick, in good shape, currently loaded with Kubuntu 6.01 Dapper (everything works, all drivers installed, though you'll need to install mp3/DVD codecs yourself). Comes with external DVD/CD-RW.

Dell LS (I have two of these), PIII 500mhz, 20GB HDD, 256mb Ram, 1 USB Port, 1 PCMCIA, No Wireless, 1 Ethernet Port, 12in Screen, 1 Inch Thick, both in good shape, both loaded with VectorLinux 5.8, everything works, though when booting you have to use the command line and issue a 'startx', as GDM won't start, and I didn't take the time to investigate why. Other than that they are great... running XFCE on both, used one last night to stream Shoutcast, no issues. Both of these come with external CD-Rom's and docking stations.

Got a few more, but if anyone is interested, make me an offer via PM
