This is the beginning of a beautiful thing =)

Wow! True upradeability seems to be becoming a reality. As far as I know they are the first to ever take it this far. It is also what I was counting on when I bought my 8887. As long as they stay this interested in helping out their customers, I'll stay with Sager til I die. Hopefully, that will be a long relationship.

16"

If the 5660 is the same case as the 88xx, why can't it come with the larger (16") screen?
By same case he means same scenerio. :-) It is most definitely not the same chassis.

I agree, this is wonderful news! Talk about taking into account the customer's wants/needs! I've already told my friends here and they are in awe, lol.

Well, this is good news and bad news for me.....

Good News: Upgradable, and will come out at some point.
Bad News: It means I'll have to wait til the 5670 comes out to get 3.06 with HT in the 56xx.

I expect the 5670 to come out around June (we guess?).. hmmmm.. What are you guys who were waiting like me (5660 with 3.06HT and M10) gonna do??? Are you gonna get a lesser 5660 without that stuff and upgrade at some point... or are you gonna wait it out til the 5670 comes out? hmmmmmm decisions!!!!

How is Alienware allowing one to configure an Area-51m w/ the 3.06 HT?

http://alienware.com/main/configurat...s/area51-m.asp

Are they just flat out lying?
dmooney, do a search!! It's been discussed about a billion times! They were "assuming" that it would come... looks like they were wrong!

BWAHAHAHA. Bad Alienware!

[alienware]

I want to see them pull out of this one. All references to it will probably just 'disappear'.

Sniff...being in mexico makes a little difficult for me to upgrade...specially after 2 months with it, ill eep my hopes so maybe i can upgrade to the m10 later this year...i hope...i really hope...that would make my lappy last another half a year or so.

Does Sager ever let you upgrade stuff yourself? Can't you just order the spare parts and swap stuff out?

Thats awsome, I've already got many people at work talking about getting a Sager, I'm sure this will just increase the desire.

That brings up a question... how about a referal plan
Refer 2 people and get a free DVD burner.

Ahhh here's to wishing

You get that midnight blue system yet? If so, please post pictures (send them to adam, if you don't have webspace).

I still would like to see a "Rainbow" of 8887's (and 5660's).

Sure, I'll have to borrow a camera (mine is across the country right now) but I will as soon as I can.

wow

wow!!!

Kudos to you Adam for the follow through on this!
Upgradable laptops! I hope this works out and they allow upgrades on the 8887 in the future.

This is really an impressive move on the part of Sager.

All I care about is this little tidbit
Quote:
The 5660 is the same case as the 8886 and it looks as though they will not release the 3.06 with HT in it. They are looking at a new motherboard revision which will also include the 128MB video and be known as the "5670". There are no dates on this as of yet.
Not that the other stuff isn't important.

And in response to triphere, who posted

He doesn't mean a physical case, but rather that they are in the same boat. Not a physical boat either. What? Exactly.

Fantastic News.

If this continues with the 8887, they will have many a happy customer out there. Even more than normally.

This is really good news.

Cheers.

Sager (and clevo for that matter) is the only vendor I know of that actually listens to all of it's customer's suggestions and complaints and then implements solutions based on this and in a timely matter as well. That's simply unprecedented.

Works for me.

It sounds like a pretty expensive upgrade (if we're talking about the $500-$600 range here), but it's a heck of a lot cheaper than buying a whole new notebook.

Depending on what the final cost truly will be and what would be involved, I think it's an offer I probably will use in the future.

That is, if the 5660 is one of the computers that can be upgraded .. I hope I hope I hope I hope..

Ditto, I'd like to know if you can perform the 'surgery' at home too.

I'd love to:
A) get the 8887 'guts' installed in my 8886
B) get the 16.1" screen installed on my 8886

or, in other words, I'd like to purchase a "8886 -> 8887 conversion kit."

Sounds like Sager is half way there... now I'd just like to
know about the screen swap ???

In any event, this is good news!

I suspect doing this upgrade yourself will void your warranty.
