Not a notebook question, but please, help!

Thread Starter
I live in Colombia, and here they sell parts of the core 2 duo (the processor, the mobo, etc).

The problem is, that compared to the U.S. prices, they are about 2-3x more expensive!!! What I can do is, import from the U.S. for my wallet's sake.

The real problem is, that if I import from the U.S., I would have no warranty! (or else, send back and forth the parts!!) and I really wouldn't want that.

Now I ask you these question, what is the normal success/failure rate for this computer parts? (Because, I can buy some high failure rate parts here and very low failure rates on the U.S.)

i680 SLI mobo: Can I trust on the factory success rate on this one?

Core 2 Duo E6700: Normally, processors have a very high success rate, should I take the risk?

GeForce 8800GTX: Will it be sane to import it?

Last important question, since I will NOT be importing it from delivery companies (I will send my money to my aunt, who will be arrivig to Colombia, thus sending me this parts), can the airplane's hot storage can damage the parts?

Sorry if this is off topic, but thanks in advance. Help is immensly appreciated.

I live in Brazil so I understand your situation, here its the exact same thing. I'm a regular at a few computer forums here and the consensus is that losing the warranty is worth the price difference, especially for a desktop computer. If you get a mobo or GPU failure, you can just replace them. If it was a notebook, your loss would be much worst.

About the parts you're getting, I think you can do better for the money... I think that the E6600 is a better value for your money, also the 8800GTX is really overpriced right now, a 7900GTO will give you GREAT performance for 1/3 of the price... And what mobo is that? Get the Asus P5w!

In places where products are 2 - 3x the cost, local support is also usually miserable. So if you bought something locally, not only does it cost you more, but if there's a problem with it, you'll have a tough time sending the product back, etc. So I'd probably got for the overseas option. Good luck.
