Hi guys,

I am planning to but a HP Pavilion dv9000t and i am not sure if the small remote control which comes in the HP advertisement is part of this laptop or is it an optional accessory(which i have to purchase separately) ? Any word from u guys would be extremely helpful.

When I called HP on a dv8000t... I was told by HP the remote came with ALL systems.... regardless if it was "ticked" off as an option.

That's what I was told by HP.... (idiots)

PS: I wouldn't buy direct from HP ... they only give a 21 day return window.

The BEST place to buy is thru COSTCO.

COSTCO gives a 180 day window : , you be a FOOL to buy from anywhere else. (really)

CTO units (Custom to Order) come DIRECT from the HP factory in CHINA... 7-10 from date of order... with the latest hardware revisions... (That reason alone being why you should CTO a machine, instead of buying a "pre-built")

http://www.costco.com/CTO/HPLanding....p=C&ec=&topnav

Before you say a 180 day return window is not an "important" issue for you, read thru this thread and ask these guys if they had wished they had bought thru COSTCO. :

(Little "tip", HP uses the "consumer" line to test out "new" ideas, hardware for their "Business Class" line of products... read that as "consumer" line units may be "buggy", or have problems like noted above.)

Buying thru COSTCO .... Why COSTCO?

If you get a unit with a "problem" you have a CHOICE of sending it in to HP for "repair"... Or just returning it getting ALL your money back. That's thru COSTCO.... Thru HP after 21-days your STUCK with it.... You get a "model" that is "problematic" and you'll thank me for pointing you to COSTCO as THE place to buy a HP from!!!!

(Note that a unit with a "problem" is DIFFERANT than a unit that is problematic.... Problems can be "fixed", problematic units/models have a problem which cannot be "fixed". See keyboard thread above)

Here's a guide on "How" you should return a unit to COSTCO :

Best place to buy an HP, How to get all your money back, and make sure mfg bears the brunt of the loss, instead of the reseller!

One last thing, depending on where you are (Chennai, India) COSTCO may not be an "option" for purchase... If that's the case you're on you're own. (Good luck)

PS: If buying thru COSTCO be sure to tick off the $13 remote option...

The remote IS part of the laptop. If you don't order it, they will have a plastic filler inside where the remote is supposed to be stored.

I got the plastic filler, AND the remote.. $13... I'd suggest to the OP to call whatever vendor you plan on buying thru to confirm current status of remote being included or not. It may indeed be part of the "package" now... April 06 you could order the unit with an OS-Re-Install disc for $10 NO bloatware, and it had the needed SATA drivers for the hard drive. NOW the only option is a $18 "System restore DVD"... (Same as the "user" created "restore disc(s) I'd also suggest to the OP that when asking such questions to LINK to the info you're talking about. (Two heads are better than one, so to speak,,,, Always better to have a third party "proof" read something you know.... Same goes for "reading" info... to you the ad may leave you to believe the item includes xyz, when it does not.) PS: Good luck on buying thru anyone else than www.COSTCO.com Thru www.COSTCO.COM I ordered a CTO'd HP dv8000t notebook back in April 2006.... Ordered like on the 3rd, shipped the 7th, arrived East Coast U.S.A the 10th by 8:30am via Fed-Ex. Purchase was appox $1,500, sales tax was around $60..... Sales tax in my area was 8-9% so you can see the sales tax was fiqured at a differant rate (less, I think 4%) Ended up returning the unit due to issues... Got ALL my money back within MINUTES. Since that time I've made hundreds of posts, and spent more time than I can to admit reading thousands of pages of people having "problems"... alot of problems not coming "out" so to speak until after the normal "21-day" return window that HP offers... Units being sent in for "repair" not being fixed, or being damaged by HP's so called repair centers leaving the posters up the creek so to speak with very little options. You can buy from HP direct, but I wouldn't buy from anyone else except for Costco unless the deal was like 1/2 off.... Note for people with a "sharp" eye I did after I returned the above unit purchase a HP "Business Class" notebook for $500 to tide me over till the next generation machines (Santa Rosa) come out. Normal price was $975. http://www.notebookforums.com/thread176205.html .

Remote? Are u talking about that remote which looks like the one for that Bose clock radio thing? I am going to assume the remote goes into the ExpressCard slot?

Whatever...I bought the analog TV tuner expresscard. It came with a Windows MCE remote.
