No 9-cell for A8Js is crap!!!

I am sure there are plenty of other people out there who feel the same way as I do.

If the A8Js had a 9-cell battery it would be the perfect laptop. The only thing that is keeping me from buying it is the battery life.

I know that I could undervolt it and probably squeak out another 15-25 minutes, but ASUS needs to come up with a 9-cell battery really quick.

Also, does anyone have any info on the w3j refresh that I am sure is coming out pretty soon?

The battery life is quite disappointing but you can always get a 2nd battery or an external battery pack... Isn't the W3j refresh already out?

Yes, unfortunately the A8j series doesn't offer an 9 cell/extended battery, the A8js has a max battery life of 2 hours and 45 mins, I'm not too sure how much you'll get out of undervolting, since the lower speeds are locked at a certain voltage.

The W3J with Core 2 Duo is already here,
Asus Notebook W3J-H037P
Intel Core 2 Duo T5500(1.66G)
1x1024M DDR2 667
100Gb @ 5400rpm HD
DVD RW
ATI X1600 256M PCI-E
Wireless abg
Bluetooth
14.1 WXGA
XP Pro
2 year global warranty

I'm curious where you think the extra battery cells would go. The 6-cell pack would appear to be full of battery cells already...so unless you want a large bulge sticking out of the bottom of your laptop, there's just no space for it

haha, yes that's absolutely correct, the A8J series design can NOT accomodate a different sized battery unless it bulges from beneath the laptop, which is not right..lol.

So your other option is the W3J with modular bay battery. that would bring you roughly 4 hours.

I still think it shows bad design on Asus' part.

The w3j is a great laptop, but it doesn't have a DVI port, has a crappy video card compared to the a8js, and the screen resolution is not as good as the a8js.

Asus could easily re-design the w3j to put in an MXM 7700 go, DVI port and also just upgrade the screen to the same resolution as the a8js. I have never understood why computer companies cannot just produce an ideal laptop like that.

It is not like they don't know what the consumers want. It doesn't take a genius to figure out these small little details that would make the w3j a perfect laptop!!!

There are a lot of people in your position who think the same way, trust me, there's so much more ASUS can do to perfect their laptops.

There are technically boundaries that restrict abilities of laptops from being so flexible as Desktops.

Let me give you a small example, the MXM platform is useless because it is to hard and costly to use it. Plus there's a technological barrier that is thermal dissipation. Lets assume the A8js had a MXM Go 7700, where are you going to get a 7900? No one really sells these, aside from ebay. Also there are cooling problems to begin, with that the A8js nor technology can handle.

This is just one exmaple, for almost every part in a laptop you can break down and see why things are done the way there are right now, with the current technology and threshold for heat and noise.

As technology progesses things will become better and better.

There is no such thing as a perfect laptop, everything is a tradeoff. If they did what you ask to make *your* perfect laptop, someone else would complain that it gets too hot or doesn't have enough battery life, or is too heavy, etc. You just need to find the best compromise for your requirements.
