guyin916 mentioned (for fact) above that a T5500 would work. That would be a solid step up for you there.

cheers ...

DO NOT BE FOOLED! Verify that you do have a 945 installed and not a 943 or 940! Otherwise you'll waste your money! You need the proper motherboard/cpu combination!

A form of hi, waving ... habit from my conversations. And thanks for the extra tip about board/chip verification in your post.

It's been a long time but people where putting Core 2 Duo's with GL940 chipset. I know Intel documentation does not say it supports but it was working.

And guy, cheers is a colloquialism for thanks. Or even hello or goodbye. British in origin.

Easiest way to positively ID chipset

Besides physically taking apart my system, can I positively confirm my chipset ID?

This is what we get when we try to ID it:

Is it a 945 or a 940?

Thanks

ID

That's actually the tool I used to get that response:

Mobile Intel(R) 945GM/GMS/940GML Express Chipsets or Intel(R) 945GT Express Chipset

As it is also displayed in the device MGR / hardware that way too-

Thanks for the help-

PS our model is a C302NR

According to this it is a 940GML

I've just put the Intel Dual Core T1400 in a Compaq C300 with no luck, BIOS was flashed but the chipset is incompatible :(

We did the Single core upgrade 1.86, new Hinges, Fan, Replaced broken sound card & maxed the ram to 2 gig. Only had to take it apart twice_ (The heat sink didn't seat right the first time azz.gif)

Now the question is how Big a hard drive will she read?

Otherwise running smooth

SATE set up, should be able to get anything in up to 500GB

cheers ...

it's a waste of time and money Im using this old laptop as a coffee cup /cd holder / tray. Its a slow pos trying to vamp this thing up is completely worthless. Maybe 4 or 5 years ago ok. But with technology advancing so much I got a way better laptop for actually less than what I paid for this in the store!

Sorry for revivng an old topic (thats already been revived various times i see)

I own a C310 version of this notebook, so it doent have the same Motherboard or graphics chip. But my model i have modified to its limit:

I upgraded to a core duo T2250 (to my knowledge there is no better supported CPU)

Wifi Card replaced with a Macbook Wireless Card (+ My own tweaked BIOS that removes hardware blocks to alow for said wireless card). Note that this works perfectly, which astounded me as well.

2GB RAM (2x 1GB)

Hard Drive 256GB Solid State

Other replaced but irrelevant parts:

CPU heatsink (the original got covered in some tar like substance somehow)

Screen Hinges

Keyboard

I dont think you can rebuild this model with higher specs than ive got now (i still use it day to day along with my android tablet).

Hope this helps other know what can be done if they have this model (or any model ending in a 0). Of couse this many years on i expect there are few

Hello all,

Pardon me for butting in on this but I found this thread while looking for posts on my other laptop (the DV9700 in my sig) and, as most of the information for the C300 is identical to the C500, I thought I would post.

If anyone here is still looking for information on their C300, you can find a good bit of information that SHOULD have some relevance to you in the C500 upgrade thread posted elsewhere on this board. The parts and assembly information for the C300 and C500 are virtually identical (the maintenance manual for the C300 on HP's site is basically step-for-step identical to the C500's process).

I won't repost it all here, but please do check out that thread, especially the last 2 or so pages, if you are still curious or needing information.

This could also be applied to the HP G3000 and G5000 laptops as far as I know.

As QHN says: Cheers!

Hahaha, I guess I will bring this thread back from the grave.

I have a c306us. Works perfectly.

However, my Alienware m5750 broke down on me, video card is always overheating.

It came equipped with a core2 duo t5500. I had high hopes of putting this into my lil' c306us ( because I had assumed it had a 945 chipset, unless you really do the research, thats an easy assumption to make ).

Now, after tearing down my c306us I have found this thread. Thank god.

So, I am off to eBay, to purchase ( instead of my Alienwares t5500, knowing now that it wont work ) a T1350 - as that seems to be the best option. These chips go for about 7$ now :)

Thanks to all that did the work before, and were nice enough to share it with us, my install should be a snap knowing what I have just read. No trial and error needed.

I will report back from the c306us once its up and running the T1350.
