Replacement Status Question - Page 3

Thread Starter
I wanted to make a final post to close the loop on this thread.

I received my replacement yesterday (m1710).

It took 13 business days. Dell said it would take 15 days. All in all the process was not terrible but not great either. If they added some transparency to the process it would be perfect.

Its the not knowing what the hell is going on that makes it misery. Its not clear to me why when a replacement is issued it is not assigned a status (Replacement Approved, Ordered Placed, In Production...).

Bottom line is that dell has another satisfied customer. Ohh and the Complete Care warranty rocks.

well, just got into production, kinda upset with the 7900gs, i had a 7800 gtx, and that is retarded, i should get a gtx for a gtx... i will cry about that...

but i am getting 2 gigs of memory, and i only had 1 in my m170, so that is a surprise.

man, spent 4 hours on dell chat trying to get the 7900 gtx! they are going to send me a completely new machine and i have to hope i get the correct gpu. pain in the ass man, i was so furious by the end, they kept telling me i had to go somewhere else, then somewhere else! i have 5 chat logs, i had to explain the problem with the gs gpu compared to my 7800 gtx like 10 times. shit, i know the gs card is a power house if you mod it, but i just don't want to do that stuff. i lost about 10 fps in bf2142, and some choppiness. just a ****ed day for me, but i anticipate getting the gtx eventually, but what a headache. i might just give up eventually...
well, here are the pictures

first start up, you can see my 54" dlp tv and 360, what a bad ass tv!

nice xps logo

closed, now that i have it i think i will keep it the way it is. kinda like it
i played my fist bf today, did ok. despite the gpu's poor performance, it wasn't too bad with some of the settings lowered
pretty stoked with they sturdiness and the black tin, kinda cool. i think i will still will replace the lid with the red one, but who knows

personally I like the contrast between the black and XPS lights, and silver casing. just me though

ya, it has grown on me, but i love my red top. its a bit flashy i suppose but i think it makes the m1710
and i just upgraded my warranty to 5 years with cc, so i dont have to worry much about problems in the future.
dell is sending me a 7900 gtx supposedly... i cant tryst anything they say though.

and.....

after a month of calls and complaining to dell about the gpu, and talking to about 50 people, i finally got authorization to get a 7900 gtx... i actually had already given up when the dell guy called me to apologize about the fact they didn't have the 7900gtx in stock.... but they have a 7950 gtx...

yay. the guy should be here in an hour or so to install it...
Nice woodstock, that 7950GTX should please you
post #49 of 52
it is good, but i obviously need to tweak it some to get it to pull more fps, so far im only getting 45 on bf 2142, and i was getting about the same with the gs card. but i am satisfied i got everything upgraded now, i went from 1 gig ram to 2, 60 gb hd to 80, 2.0 ghz pent m to 2.16 ghz core 2 duo and a 7800 gtx to a 7950 gtx, i made out like a bandit!!! all for free, and i only paid 1300 for the original m170.

Awesome pricing man! I feel privileged to have this E1705 for technically $1300, but if I had what you had...i'd be REALLY happy
post #51 of 52
ya, its a steal

Ok, well I called dell about my system having some issues - It is a Inspiron 9300. I have had 2 motherboard replacements and a few different other things. I bought this computer a little over a year and a half ago and I upgraded it with a 7800 gtx. After about 4 hours on the phone I got someone who could help, a manager so I thought, and due to my video card upgrade I should now be receiving a XPS m1710 with a 7950GTX. She promised me nothing else since all of the other parts did not come from dell (upgraded hard drive and 2 gig ram).

I am on day 3 now and it is killing me to know if they are going to honor this - my question is does the update show on the service call status page or will I have to look up a new order under my name/customer number/zip code?

Thanks,
-Max
