8887c TV Tuner

Thread Starter
I have a direct connection to my cable service. My problem is that the TV tuner will change channels automatically, that is without any input from me. "I assume I have ghosts in the machine."

I uninstalled and reinstalled the TV software as per Sagers instructions. Still the same problem.

Now some intern at Sager says I have to reinstall Win XP Pro!
( if you don't know an answer, reinstall windows)

Anyone know who makes the built in tuner and software?
Maybe I can find an update.
Thanks,
Treeman

At least they're not telling you to re-etch the pcb

Seriously-
you're right, though... that stock answer is a good indication the support rep doesn't know.

We have a saying at my work:
"When in doobt, reboot" (read doubt like a canadian)...

Similar, I bet. Most everything is WINDOWS' fault. Or that's what everyone but microsoft will have us believe!

The Real Poop!

I found out that TV Studio is made by AverMedia, and guess what, the drivers and the App. for the Phillps TV card installed on the 8887c are Win 2K not XP!
Went to the AverMedia site and downloaded the XP version of TV Studio along with the drivers.
I will rollback the drivers and nuke the W2K TV Studio software, create a restore point, and load the XP drivers and application.

I'll post new info if this works.
P.S. The files are almost identical in size.
The cab and inf files are different of course.

Wow. That'd mean mine on the 8880 are old too. I've come to use DScaler for all my TV-in watching. It lacks the horizontal lines of the horrible interlacing in the default software.

Definitely keep us posted about the upgrade though.

Just a question, does it jump back to channel 4?
If so, tell me, i know the answer.

(BTW, it has been known that it is an avermedia tuner, try this: http://sagerforums.com/forums/showth...=&threadid=620)

Oh yeah, and try using PowerVcr 2 for recording, pretty good software.
Yeah...try disabling Norton Antivirus if you are using it (specially 2003), it is the most common reason for channel jumping.

Tell us if it worked.

It Does Go To Channel 4!

Is this a favorite for this card or what?
P.S., How do you delete unwanted channels after auto-scan?
Thanks a Lot,
Treeman

Yes it is a favorite, the fix is disabling norton antivirus (speacially the 2003, and to delete channels you dont want, go the avermedia control panel, select the wrench like button, and in the channel list, untick the ones you dont want.
All done.

Tell me if the fix worked.

Disabled Nav 2003

Yup,
Disabled Norton 2003, but still get the jump back to channel 4.
I wonder what chipset is on this Phillips card? Seems to be encased with a cover I don't want to pull off just yet. Do you know which chipset would be used with the imbedded Phillips TV -Tuner on the 8887c?

and about 95% of the time its probaly true...
you disabled norton? every piece of software from symantec?

BTW, its a bt878, a chipset used widely, even from ati, but the card is an avermedia.

Well, if disabling symantec software didnt work...what else do you have running? minda telling me you current running software, and under which conditions it jumps?

8887c Tv Card

After opening up the bottom of the notebook the TV card I see says "Phillips" in raised metal stamped letters, on the shielding on the top of the unit.
Are we speaking about the same TV unit?
Oh, B.T.W. Thanks for your guruness in this endevour!

P.S., I haven't done the update from Avermedia until I can find out which chipset this really is. I saw the one you posted and will go back to the AverMedia site and look for the drivers.
I'd ask Sager tech support, but I don't want to be told to reformat the HD again.
Best,
Treeman

Fixed my TV recorder issue on 8887/3Ghz

reading the below posts I went to
http://www.aver.com/support/downloads.shtml
and downloaded the winxp.zip for "TV98 With Remote (BT-878)" and then once unziped cd into winxp directory and then Application and run the setup in the disk 1 directory. I am now about to record in the VCR mode and it works great.
