Is there a consensus on the XPS problems?

I have an XPS on order and I'm just wondering if there is any consensus on whether Dell has acknowledged the problem and taking corrective action on systems in the pipeline or do we need to be concerned that there is still some unresolved issues?

Don't worry about it...everything's fine...

I'll go out on limb here and say there are still some unresolved issues

It appears they are working on it, but keep in mind we don't all have issues. Being on the bleeding edge of technology has it's pros and cons.

Just order one, dude...it is a solid investment...no BS-ing here this time...the whole computer is just a big heat-sink cooling-solution that can handle an overclocked 9700 (as long as you keep powerstrip enabled)...once they get around this workaround stuff (meaning, by the time they ship YOUR XPS), there will be no stopping this as the king of LAN party gaming and the solution for road warriors who want to do more than smack off to Cinemax and pass out!

My thoughts....

-Completely related to a bad GPU (not dell's fault, they get 'em from ATI)
-They ARE replacing these GPU boards or entire XPS unit if you want
-I would strongly recommend the at-home service, as they overnight parts to get the job done as quickly as possible.

I personally only get 1 year at-home and 1 year completecare for any of my notebooks. I always sell them after that year so they're still worth something when I sell 'em - then I upgrade.

Don't know if anybody's noticed, but the the post in the Dell forum Beware the Inspiron XPS: Hard lockups and display corruption
has been hidden? from view. You can still link directly to it from the link given above, but somebody surfing around won't see it. At least I couldn't. It would seem to me that Dell is trying to bury this problem from public knowledge.

it's in plain view for me.... did a logout as well, still there...I think you just saw other posts on top of it. It only makes its way to the top of the list if someone posts to it (otherwise it gets pushed down by new posts).

I just realized that I ordered 1 year mail-in service and I'm thinking I should change this to at least 2 year on-site and complete care. Does anyone know if I can do this on-line or do I need to call and have a sale rep change it?

I've had so little problems with laptops that I just don't take the support programs seriously. I guess this is only with non-bleeding edge stuff.

Well, it's not just me. I went through 3 pages of the Inspiron: Video forum and it cannot be seen. I do see that you have posted a link to it, Karl. Thanks.

I bookmarked the original so I can get to it, but it has definitely been hid from general viewing. I am not a member of that forum, so maybe they just don't want it out the perspective buyers.

From the lack of progress of building the systems that are going on, I'm guessing that they are trying to figure out and fix the problem. However, Dell is telling me that the reason is due to a shortage of screens. I'm wondering if those who purchased 8600's with the WUXGA screen are being held up. If they are, then they are probably telling me the truth, if not, then their @ss is sucking wind and they are trying to cover up.

I would call and change it it would save you some headaches of having to pack up and ship it (that's gonna run you $20 alone im sure). It would also speed things up since you don't have to worry about transit time.

I only do a year myself, i figure if anything is going to break horribly, it's going to do so in the first year.

I went to and couldn't find it. I then paged back further and saw it three pages back, but not in order of post date. Don't know why its not in order by date, but there where 2-3 others that were that way. Guess maybe that is not the best thing to see on the first page. It was updated today.

You are correct, sir. It was on page 3 for some reason. I guess I only went 2 pages.

Be sure yo are logged in ... Then at the top of the board click on "Board Options" and then click "Sort Messages by Latest Post Date" ...

If you see "Sort Messages by Thread Start Date" then you already have it selected and don't have to do anything ...

Once I did this they stay dorted correctly as long I I log in to use the forums ...
