Thinkpad t60p vs. Asus A8Js Help me decide please.

I need a dvi connection. That is the first point. This is necessary because I'll be using it with either a westinghouse 37" 1080p monitor or the dell 2407, not sure which yet. The IBM needs the advanced dock for dvi, which is an ungodly $159. It will be used for light gaming (Counter Strike Source only) and a lot of school work. Mainly school work, which would include just word processing, but I also like to do a lot of photoshop and that sort of work.

With the dock I configured a great Lenova for only $ 1,597.00.

I would recommend the T60p only if you value warranty over performance for value. I've never had issue with IBM's warranty, having used it at various workplaces over the past 8 years.

i think that either one will be a great reliable system, but personally i'd go for the asus in this case

Lots of people are praising Asus's North American service, it's the service in other continents that is lacking.

Also a lot of the resellers who sell Asus post here and are very helpful. So Asus has very good support as well.

Not to mention the Asus has a 2 year warranty standard and 100gig hdd.

Umm...my vote is for the Asus too (look at my sig) but the IBM offers a level of service I haven't been able to find elsewhere. Maybe it's just the extended warranties that most business users tend to spring for. I've been spoiled by that lvl of service...I also like how Lenovo makes their laptop dissassembly diagrams available to the public for every model they have.

Thinkpad, hands down.

The T60p will have much better ergonomics. It does have small niceties that you will like (night light and such).

Also, it offers the option of having a built-in CDMA (cellular) connection, so it has Internet anywhere. If you decide not to, you can always see if you can find a TV Tuner MiniPCI Express card. Having two MiniPCI slots gives you lots of flexibility.

Above all, Thinkpad exudes quality. I recommend you to go for it if you can.

Asus and IBM are both quality brands, with IBM being more geared towards business users and Asus more based towards consumer type users. (IMO, after using my father's IBM T60p and my own Asus z70va) Go with the one that suits your needs, price, and style best. Good luck with deciding.
