Inspiron XPS fan question

Thread Starter
i'm looking to upgrade the fan in my inspiron XPS GEN I. What are the specs to it so that i may pick out the right upgrade fan for better cooling? And are any aftermarket fans compatible with this computer?

I currently have the following:
3.4GHz P4 HT Northwood
2GB RAM
256MB ATI Mobility 9800

thanks

looks like you've got a nice setup there for the Gen 1. Def. like the Northwood. Mines a prescott, so if anyone needs a chilly day to keep things cool, it'd be me - unfortunately, I don't believe there are any upgrade options for fans on just about any laptop. it's all pretty much proprietary parts, so the fans you currently have need to fit into those compartments.

You're really only going to be able to add a notebook cooler http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...&Go.x=0&Go.y=0 to the bottom of the thing to help draw heat away. Most are pretty dubious, particularly since the XPS 1 already sports three fans.

You could go nutz and try watercooling, but it's a very heavy mod job, and would quickly turn your laptop into a fixture. This dude did it, but he's missing some pics: http://www.thetechlounge.com/forum/s...?t=2622&page=3

Best you can do without any mod upgrade or third party cooling platform is to grab a case of canned air and clean out those fans often. Thats the simplest way to keep things chilly without the accessories.
