Hi I just wanted to know if you guys having a Macbook pro with an ATI x1600 video card 256mb or either 128mb are having this screen grainyness issue which has been know quite much .
It's been known it's a problem with ATI x1600 cards it's not a problem of the LCD panel itself the problem is as follows you can see a shot over here

no idea here. maybe a bad connection, or interference?

can you link something more than just random screen pics?

like maybe an article explaining the problem? or how you heard of it?

ive always found anyways that the macro function on ANY digital camera gives that lcd effect. so in my opinion, until i see it with my PURE eyes, its probably isnt true.

I just got mine yesterday and I'm not seeing any grainyness at all. I was using a MB C2D and decided to upgrade to the MB. I personally can't tell any difference between the quality of the LCD's at all.

The images he posted don't look that way because of the Macro setting. You see the actual clear grid of pixels because of that, but the images that the pixels are making are clearly shown at less than full colour. If anything it looks like the screen is set to 256 colours instead of millions.

I have that problem too. It seems as if that only happens in fast moving grays. Sometimes when I play Live for Speed, my whole dashboard gets grainy.

For me the grain is apparent only in Windows. It is very apparent in gaming but it's also pretty noticeable against gray colors. The Asus x1600 users have had this issue for some time, it was recently resolved via an officially released BIOS update. Unfortunately for us Mac owners, our machines use some sort of EFI system in lieu of a BIOS. Some users have deduced that the issue is a screen problem, as in too much of a coating was applied from the factory, I beg to differ seeing as how the Asus guys have had the exact same issue with the same video card.

Currently the only fix is to get a replacement from Apple, I myself have tried to bring the issue up with tech support but the guy basically told me any issues with Windows he has no bearing under and that I should play with the display calibration settings to see if it helps. I actually did this via the Windows drivers Display properties tab, after some fiddling I eliminated the grain from a particular shade of gray but the problem is still there for lighter shades. The tech guy didn't seem to want to issue any sort of replacement, I didn't push the issue.

So far I'm just living with the grain issue, it's not the horrible glaring problem many users make it out to be nor does it affect the MBP's ability to function. Furthermore I don't see it in OSX. It does suck though.
