New DVD Writer in 630M

Thread Starter
My son is using a 630M with a TSST TS-L532B DVD Writer in it. It is not a very good drive, so we were hoping to change the DVD writer for an NEC ND-6750A, which we believe to be a much better drive.

I have been able to find plenty of suppliers for the drive, but always without any software. Will we need any drivers or firmware (or both) in order to install the drive within the laptop and if so, is it best to download them from the NEC website? (If we need firmware, where would we get that, as the NEC site appears to only have firmware upgrades).

Thanks all.

Regards

Peter

It's plug and play. Should be fine. Firmware updates do not effect the compatibility with the motherboard but compatibility between the Writer and CD/DVD media as well as write speeds. So you should be good to go...
