Hey everyone i posted something about this before but think i made a mistake in the posting... i have an m1710 i've just seen a video where it shows someone playing a video game and the led lights responding to the game playing blue lights when in water and red lights during an explosion... how do i get this? is it possible? is it just for the newer m1710s? Is it software or some kind of bios new motherboard trick? I really want this one for my xps. heres the video...

fixed the link..... does anyone have a newer M1710 and knows how to do this?

Did you listen to the video? He is saying that the lightfx sdk allows the developpers to write code to take advantage of the lights. The game he shows, a game that's been written to take advantage of the lights. Buy it and you get the same features!

sorry thought it was just a demo of the lightfx i did now.... so it takes an m1710 (i have) lightfx (i have) and only specific games are meant to take advantage of the sdk?

ihaev an older version of quickset i'm installing the new version now.... so how do i get this to work?

dude ive been there i still cant figure out how or if its possibl for this to work with my everyday games like Battlefield 2
post #9 of 40
no!...You would have to implement the api into your code for the program...youre question thus is comparable to asking if you can get everyday games like battlefield 2 to run in dx10 (even if you have dx10 hardware)...

the effect when playing music was awesome.. more impressive than in the game IMHO... It's like there's a party going on inside your laptop!!! :P

The SDK (software development kit) gives you pretty much full control over the LEDS. Think of it like this.

You're playing counterstrike, you get shot. On that event, all the lights blink red.
A flashbang goes off, LEDs go white.

That's pretty simple compared to what you can do with the lights, changing the zones, colors and what not. It doesn't have to go with the 'sound' like the current plugins, but with in game actions.

NOTE: You can't just install the SDK and play games thinking the lights will work. You have to make your own program.

i didnt know im sorry.... i'm bad at the SDK i write little programs just to seem em blink and nothing.. i cant get the SDK to control the lights. i have the newest version of quickset i dont know what i'm doing wrong. Can people exchange programs? i'm suprised more of that isnt going on.

I installed the sdk and quickset, but the media player and itunes plugins don't do anything. Do you need to enable them somehow? (aside from ticking the box in quickset?)

when you go into media player you need to set the visualiser as XPS Lights FX and then the lights will change in time to the music!!

Go into Dell Quickset/Gaming/LED Effects tab. Checkmark Winamp. Open up Winamp and Options/Visualization/Select Plugin. You will see the Dell LightFX option with 3 effect choices. For me when Winamp starts up each time you have to select View/Visualization which is annoying. You can make ur own hotkey's with winamp or use their default CTRL+SHIFT+K

First off are you getting the option in Dell Quickset for Winamp?

Second...

So you go into winamp/options/visualization/select plugin.

Then on the screen it should say 'Dell XPS LightFx (blahblah.dll)'

Down the bottom there should be a 'Plug-in Module' pull down menu which says LightFX1.. FX2.. FX3.
Just hit the 'Start' button.

Oh I am using Quickset from a link I found in the dell LightFX forums. Appears to be newer than on the 1710 downloads page.
