My Personalized M9710

So i didnt really like the new M1710's all silver look..its nice but just not for me. I like the old style M170 better and the closest thing to it is the M90, and it just happens that the m90 plastics fit the m1710's easy. So i did that then bought an m170 front bezel and 9400 keyboard. i like the setup a lot more then the m1710, if anything i might try to put the XPS touchpad into the m90's but thats not a big deal to me...would be kinda cool though. But i hate taking apart the laptop everytime i do im worried something might happen...

What did the parts end up costing you?

M170 LCD Besel: $
Rubber stopers: $
9400 Keyboard: $

How does it look with the black besel and the silver LCD cover?

Can you take a side shot?

Nice work & looks great.... However, what's egay??? I know you mean ebay but that's a good one for a nice laugh. You've certainly brighten up my day with that!

can you tell me how to take off the covers and stuff without damaging anything?

hey throttled, its cake it really is easy all it is a bunch of philips screws, just remember after unscrewing everything if it doesnt come off easy....you forgot a screw look over the whole thing before pulling hard. Theirs complete instructions on removal of every single part in the service manual at dell.com just search for it, if youre having trouble finding it i'll find it for you.

First take off the control panel, then remove the lcd 4 screws and remember to take off the wifi panel and remove the antenna cables that are attached to the lcd. Remove the lcd, then remove the 2 screws holding in the keyboard BE VERY CAREFUL when removing the keyboard the little ribbon cable attaching it to the mobo is fragile, break it and youre done. Then remove the 6-8 screws underneath the keyboard that hold the palm rest to the mobo.

Flip over the board and remove all the screws holding in the board on the bottom...its a bunch but it wont take long.

The thing i'm mad about i've already bought 2 black keyboards and so far one time the A button stuck the next keyboard the e button stuck... i dont get it. I might have to talk to the seller and order another one... if you want to go in together paypal me some cash and i'll send it over your way after i get mine.

Remember that you need a 9400 keyboard (or M90 same thing) model # NC929

i'll post some more pics but i want a vote.... completely forgetting the M1710 and m170's release dates, and specs and everything...what looks better the M170 lid or the M1710 lid? I'm starting to think the m170 and with my setup its even more reason to switch... then i would really have an m170 on my hands the only one with a T7200 and a 7900GTX i might do it..... i want opinions i like the chrome in the middle with the black on the outside

i like the darker stuff better myself, hence the desire to convert to looking like an M90
post #17 of 26
Nice. I think if you had silver surrounding the lcd, palm rest and a silver keyboard that thing would look awesome!

champion i swear im gunna.... i realy dont like the m1710's plain silver palm rest when comparing it next to a 9300 or m170 it looks cheap i like the m170's light silver the best and i kinda like the m90's dark silver look
post #19 of 26
i want to do the same as you, with the fan + speakers lights, do they change color like xpsm1710? Could you explain more or less how you did it? thanks!

And put more pics!!! i really want to see them!

serigop, the reason his lappy has lights and all is because it IS a m1710, he just put the m90 9300 external skins on it... same as I'm gonna do with my m1710. if you want the lights in your M90 then you'll have to look for dell spare parts to get those probably.
