Just installed Vista RC2

First impressions: The install process was extremely easy. Easier than some Linux installations I've done in the past (which were also easy as well). It took only about 30 min on my e1705. I am actually posting using this os right now. Right when I got onto the desktop, I new that Windows was definately trying to revolutionize the way users used their computers. Getting deeper into the OS, I realized that it's all eye candy and a different way of organizing the information. It just feels the same as XP. I also can't find a way to make my screen easier to read... In XP, all I had to do was use quickset to change everything to extra large, which didn't mess up the images in IE. In Vista, quickset doesn't have that feature. Also, changing the dpi to 96 makes eveyrthing look blurry.

I can safely say that this release is very stable. I haven't crashed once, every driver installed automatically (haven't checked card reader). All the programs just work. I think Vista is heading in the right direction. However, I'm waiting til December 7th for the newest version of openSuSE to come out. Once I install that, I will be able to judge if Vista will actually be my primary os. I think I may end up sticking to Linux, but for the average Joe who just wants to email and play solitaire, Vista may actually be a great upgrade.

Yeah, I have been running the RTM final version on my M1710 for 2 weeks. I just wish Dell would release the video drivers so the system would stop getting the crazy epileptic seizures every time I open a new screen.

Just use the Nvidia Vista drivers from laptopvideo2go.com.
