Hi there,
Been surfing this forum for the past few weeks on the lead up purchasing my M1210. Its been a really great help! Thanks for all the advice I've read, including what is the best screen type etc?
Either way I still managed to encounter my own problem, more specifically involving the Truemobile 355 Bluetooth Module. When I ordered my notebook I forgot to include it, so I purchased it separately from ebay, figuring it won't be much different. Plus the seller specifically states that it is compatible with the M1210.
After receiving the module, I installed it and the drivers, and it appeared to be happy. However, after a couple of restarts of Windows XP MCE, the OS began to hang in between the WinXP boot-up screen and the actual login page (where the screen goes blank momentarily), and it would stay there forever. It got to a point where 9 out of 10 times of restarting it would completely hang.
I figured it was a bad install, or a software fault. So I performed clean format of the OS with the bluetooth module installed, but it returned. To date I've tried different variations of bluetooth drivers and bluetooth stacks (Widcomm/WinXP), but the problem has returned all the time after installing some other Windows applications or windows updates. Each time I performed a clean format of the OS to standardise the comparisons. The only time when this problem didn't return was when I performed a clean install without the bluetooth module/drivers installed.
I noticed on a previous thread that it could be a conflict with software drivers. More specifically the SCSI Drivers from Daemon tools and the Logitech Quickcam Drivers. However I don't have Daemon tools installed. Plus my problem returns randomly after installing programs that had installed fine previously and not caused the problem. For example, I perform a clean format with the bluetooth module and install Logitech Setpoint and its fine. I format another clean format with the bluetooth module, and install Logitech Setpoint, and it bombs out. I've noticed it do this with several applications including K-Lite Mega Codec 1.61, VMWare Workstation and Checkpoint SecureRemote R60 VPN client. Taking into account that I currently have no bluetooth module in my computer, and all these applications have installed fine and not caused the problem.
After figuring it was the bluetooth module I decided to check out the part number of the bluetooth module I purchased of ebay. It is 0RJ421. I performed a google search on this Part number, only to find that the results showed only ebay listings from only the seller that I purchased it from. Is it possible that I have purchased a fake? However, when I do a clean install of WinXP MCE, the Dell Driver CD finds the 355 Module and indicates that the driver for it should be installed. I also found that bluetooth modules without the FCC sticker and CD are considered to be refurbished products, and I didn't receive the sticker or CD.
So my questions are:
1) Does anyone have any idea how to fix my above problem?
2) Is my bluetooth module a dud/faulty?
3) Is my bluetooth module (P/N 0RJ421) a fake/cheap imitation since I can't find the proper dell P/N for the 355 Module?
4) What is the P/N for the 355 Bluetooth Module?
Just some extra information:
- Written on the Bluetooth module it says: Foxconn DP/N:0RJ421 BCM92045MD
- My computer configuration is: M1210/Core 2 Duo T7200/2Gb 667Mhz Ram/100GB 7200rpm HD/AV Package/WinXP MCE/Asia-Pacific Specification. I performed the Extended Dell Diagnostics and my computer passed all the tests.
- When I do manage to successfully boot into Windows the 355 Module appears to work. My cellphone can detect it (haven't tried the reverse).
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide me!
