Xfree 4.3

Thread Starter
Given XFree 4.3 has support(CVS) for M9, what is the advantage of using the ATI drivers, do these provide better performance even given they are made for the desktop?

I have never gotten the ATI drivers to work, but I haven't tried recently, either.

Of course, I would happily use the ATI, after consideration, if I can avoid having to compile DRI-CVS!

It takes forever

XFree 4.3 built ;)

Hey, i have built the latest 4.3.0 version of XFree86, and have tried the 3d support with the DRI modules coming with it.

Differences:
--Well, the performances are similar, maybe little less for X 4.3.0, compare to 4.2.1 with the ati official proprietary drivers, 10 FPS or so lower in FPS games. But increased stability as the ati driver tend to crash on me when i alternate X and console. Great to see open source support...

Try it...cvs or tarball dll from xfree site. But that requires building in ( compiling it by hand ). Soon will be integrated in major distro...........

Great......
