Formatting Drive Problem...

Hey all... a friend bought a new Maxtor drive and wanted me to install it into their computer as the boot drive. I hooked the thing up into the IDE, set it as master...etc. I boot to the Maxtor ulitility disk that came with it, which is MaxBlast4, and it loads and says "Maxtor detected do you want to set up this disk" I click yes, and then it goes into the set up screen and says "There is no Maxtor Drive detected in the System"

WTF!?

Any ideas? No matter what I can't get this thing formatted as a bootable disc. I've tried three different hard drives and three different XP discs and all of them BSOD sometime during the copying of files.

Ahrhghrhgh!

Heh...

Well, It seems that there was a thin piece of plastic between the fan/heatsink and the processor and it was causing the thing to overheat!

Totally bizzare that they'd put this nearly invisible piece of plastic on there, but hey.

Ah yep, its usually a plastic piece to protect the processor during packaging and such. Glad you solved it, and hopefully your processor didn't get any heat damage
